Is the system actually shutting down or rebooting? Any error messages before it shuts down?
If its just shutting down then I've had the same problem and it was the MB.
When you uninstalled the software did you deleted the Program file folder? I performed reinstalled that didn't work before because I didn't delete the Program Files folder.

The easiest way to have the two pc's see each other if you just want to share some data is to install nwlink and netbeui. They will see each other quickly, and then make sure you have admin pwds on both and you can map to both.
