XP/ME/98 sasser virus

OK, maybe its a strange one.
riedn recently got new pc with xp.
He copied all his stuff from his Win ME machine, now it seems the new xp machine has the sasser buggie. At least it has all the symptoms.
But when I run the fixsasser, it finds nothing.
I think the sasser buggie will not affect me/98, so it can be on the machine but not afffect it (?)

1. Is it possible to infect xp this way ?
2. If so how do I remove?

The sasser removal tool almost always says it didn't find anything.

Run the sasser removal tool and the Zotob tool.

Also check Symantec's site for the reg keys
