This is a newbie question and I apologize if it's already been posted before:
We're using SMS 2003, and we need to limit an AD group to be able to read only a specific category of Reports. For example, we need the AD group 'Auditors' to be able to read reports only under the 'Hardware -...
Robertedmed, My experience has been quite different from LWComputingMVP. Actually, it's the exact opposite. I have Dell drives that are excellent and haven't broken down(except for maybe a rare stuck tape). We have Dell autoloaders that have VS80 drives, SDLT1 drives, LTO3 drives as well as LTo4...
You can use Windows NT backup to read the tape. Most backup programs convert the data to a .bkf file. You can use almost any backup software to read the data from the file. So say the customer used Backup Exec to backup data, it will be stored on tape as a .bkf file and you can use Windows...
bmurphywa,
It does sound too long to backup 20 GB. What kind of data do you backup? What are the speed of the 3 hard drives as well as the data transfer rate for the Rev Drive?
Maybe the USB is the bottleneck. If you chose a smaller backup and have it dumped to the C: drive, how long does that...
I have a SAS connected Dell TL2000 with a LTO4 tape head. The rated speed for LTO4 is supposed to be 130MB/sec, but the fastest speed I got is 83 MB/sec(which is almost as fast as a LTO3 drive). I tried to test backups by selecting files from a local drive and not through the network. i'm using...
Hi all,
We're looking to get the Dell LTO4 drive TL2000 autoloader. The problem is all our storage solutions we have at the moment are SCSI interfaces (disk array and current tape drives). We dont have an extra PCI slot on the backup server and the current PCI slot has the SCSI card for the disk...
I think that should be the last step in troubleshooting. The problem with SCSI timeouts is that there are a million things that could cause the timeout. But by Murphy's law, it's going to be the very last thing that you check that causes the timeouts.:)
Yes. I changed the SCSI ids of the autoloader and it worked. The SCSI ID was earlier set to Library-4, Autoloader-6. I changed it to Library-1 and Autoloader-2, and it started functioning properly. I dont know the logic behind it...but since it's working now, I'm not complaining.
I'm trying to restore a Full backup and the corresponding weekday's incrementals onto a new file server. The Full restore job ran fine but when I try running the incremental restore, it gives me this error
Final error description: Access is denied.
Final error category: Security Errors
The...
Ok, I think I know what's causing a failed job. I normally install Veritas drivers for the tape drive. During the course of a test job, the tape drive goes back to the original default Microsoft drivers, which invariably causes it to fail. The tape drive also shows an error message on the panel...
Hi everyone,
Last month, one of our Overland tape drives had a stuck tape and we got a replacement from Overland. We installed it, and tried doing a test job. It runs fine for a while, and then fails. Backup exec's job log says " The action failed because of an I/O error". The system log says "...
Hey everyone,
I know this is a silly question, but after i enable debug logging on the remote agent and job engine, where do the log files get saved? How do I go about viewing the logs?
The backup job has been setup for a while, and so is the NIC. You are correct, the backup server has multiple NICs. They are all configured correctly, and the backups go smmothly except it give the remote agent initialisation error
Thanks. I'll enable debug logging and check to see if that comes up with something.
The VSS machine is on a completely different subnet. The machine is based in a different country, but it still has an internal IP. I'm guessing it doesnt have to pass through a firewall since it's in the...
The DNS checks out fine. We tried backing it up by user defined selection through IP but it still gives the same error.
But I havent tried debugging the remote agent and job engine. How would I go about doing that?
We have a Visual SourceSafe machine (remote)which requires to be backed up using Backup exec 9.1 from the backup server. The VSS machine does a daily maintenance job and dumps a flat file into the backup folder. Backup exec is configured to backup that particular folder daily. Everyday, I get a...
