Your client installation would properly be in the following sub directory on your Pervasive server installation

Your problem might be related to a bad index on your Pervasive Database
Above mentioned is normally solved by a rebuild on the affected module and if the afore mentioned does not work a dump and reload

There are usually 3 X tricks to accomplish a client ODBC connection.
1. Do not install a pervasive engine it will slow down the workstation !
2. Install at least Pervasive 2000 service pack 3
3. The target engine should be reverenced not by name but by IP address
