Hi,

In windows 2000, I am trying to create an ODBC Connection to Pervasive 2000 Server Database on Netware 5.0. When I try to create a System DSN the whole processs is going smoothly but in the end the ODBC Connection TEST fails. In the Drivers tab of "ODBC Data Source Administrator" there is only the PERVASIVE CLIENT Interface present the PERVASIVE ENGINE Interface is not there. Is this the problem, do we need the Pervasive Engine Interface in the Drivers tab if so how can we install the Engine Interface while Installing Pervasive Client in Windows 2000 Pro. it does't ask for Client or Engine Interface Instaltion.

I shall be most grateful for help.

Thanks

Zab

Hi Zab,

You won't have the Engine Interface unless you have the workgroup engine installed. Sounds like you only have the client installed. One thing to try is to have your database and and the engine database name the same. i.e. SAMLTD and SAMLTD. Your client ODBC connection can be something else.

What version of Pervasive is installed?

Hi DjangMan,

Thanks for your suggestion for creating an ODBC Connection. Yes It needs the Engine Interface to be Installed first. We are using Pervasive 2000 Version for Netware.

Thanks again

Zab.

The engine interface will only be on the server itself. You can access it when you create a DSN on the client. Try going through the Pervasive control panel to setup the engine connection first and then try connecting the client.

Hello ZABARVAN

There are usually 3 X tricks to accomplish a client ODBC connection.

1. Do not install a pervasive engine it will slow down the workstation !
2. Install at least Pervasive 2000 service pack 3
3. The target engine should be reverenced not by name but by IP address

Good Luck

HI,

We are using Pervasive 2000 in Netware. The Pervasive Engine is installed at Novel Server. I want to Install Pervasive Engine on Workstation but don't know how, while Installing Pervasive 2000 it installs only Pervasive Client not the Pervasive Engine. Help will be highly appreciated.

Thanking You

ZAB

Why do you need the pervasive engine on the workstation? What are you trying to accomplish?

Typically you do not need the pervasive engine on a workstation unless you are running a stand-alone, non-networked application that used the btrieve engine.

Common third party software such as crystal reports does not require the workstation engine.

Your client installation would properly be in the following sub directory on your Pervasive server installation

“C:\PVSW\Clients\Win\setup.exe”

Just run and you should be fine

Good luck
