I agree with the above esp. SQLDenis' virtual labs. I think the best way to learn is to have a textbook/BOL + the hands-on environment.

Just as an appendix to MDXer's excellent post - ROLAP is relational and HOLAP is a hybrid (combo of both MOLAP multidimensional and ROLAP).
There is also DOLAP (just in case you were running out of things to think about...)

Thanks for the updates guys. It's always a tough call as to when you do a major upgrade. I have incorporated your informal responses to my current upgrade assessment/recommendations.

I know it's early days but I was wondering how many are planning or have kicked off an upgrade to SS2005? Any initial problems or learnings?
Thanks.

Hi toray,
SSRS printing can be a little fiddly. Have you tried:
- removing the margins (default "1")
- reducing the cell padding?
What version of SSRS are you running?

Hi riska,
Not really - we also have automated Windows updates but a drop by that much in performance would appear to me at least that something else is at play.
Would you mind sharing what tests you might have run to verify/isolate cause?

I concur with SQLDenis and vogrunt, the comparison should be like against like.
CrystalXI = COGNOS ReportNet = SQLServer Reporting Services (or thereabouts)
These tools have greater visual functionality in report/query creation (to mention but one) compared to Query Analyzer as QA was designed...
Hi bobetko,
There's no right or wrong answer I guess, it would really depend on:
- volume of data
- complexity of analysis/extract
- type of analysis (multidimensional data?)
- budget (how much can you spend?)
- mode of delivery
Any ideas?
