Batch Convert JPG to PDF in Acrobat 5.0

There are some batch processing options in Acrobat 5.0 (full version, not Reader) and one of them does exactly what you want - if I remember correctly. This is from memory, but check the batch sequences in the file menu and it should be there. If not, explore the original CD - there should be...

    backup software for XP Pro.

I use Drive Snapshot and love it. It is super fast and very reliable. Check it out here: http://www.drivesnapshot.de/en/

    dual boot system

Writing to an NTFS partition is still a little sketchy. The Captive NTFS driver, and the NTFS for Linux drivers work, but there is the potential to screw up your Windoze data - at least that seems to be the conventional wisdom.

    .VSP files

http://www.tek-tips.com/gviewthread.cfm/pid/776/qid/862827 This link mentions VSPCache*.VSP files. Looks like a Veritas Backup product. If you're not running the backup software they are referring to, then I suppose it is time to get suspicious.

    Help Sorting Folders.

I hate to say it, but I don't think this is going to work. The intelligent character string sorting in XP and Server 2K3 were introduced new for those OS's - I don't think it can be added to older products. The only thing I can think of might be a third-party app (maybe). I know there are...

    JPG thumbnails not showing

Did you unregister the shimgvw.dll or use any of the unofficial WMF vulnerability patches over the last couple of weeks? It's my understanding that these steps to fend of a WMF exploit might have removed the ability to view thumbnails in Explorer. I'm not sure about the official Microsoft...

    Test wireless security?

Here you can download a Linux LiveCD distro that comes preconfigured with a whole bunch of wireless security tools. Check it out - it might not be for you, but it is cool either way. . . http://www.remote-exploit.org/index.php/Main_Page

    Acrobat from Autocad printing trouble

What versions of software are involved? Is the user with a problem using a different version of Acrobat, or is everything the same? Are that user's printer drivers up to date? Have you tried selecting (or deselecting) "Print as Image" from the print options? How about some of the advanced...

System shutdown when burning a DVD

What program are you using to burn DVDs and CDs? I know it sounds irrelevant, but I had an old NT pc that spontaneously rebooted everytime Roxio was used to burn. Installed CD Burner XP and the symptoms went away. How about firmware/drivers for the burner? Is everything up to date? Just a...

How to add a power user group to XP Pro that was updated from XP Home

Start->Run. Type lusrmgr.msc. Once you get into the local user manager, you should have no trouble figuring out how to add users to the "Power User" group. Hope this helps, Martin

    Microsoft backup media full

The Windows backup creates a single file, right? FAT32 file systems have a 4 gig limit for single files. Can you create an NTFS partition and backup to that?

    Need a good backup program...

Check out Drive Snapshot at: http://www.drivesnapshot.de/en/ There are all kinds of good backup programs out there, but this one is my favorite because it's fast, relatively cheap, and versatile.

Blocking MSN Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, Skype

You could also block the ports used by the apps. Yahoo uses 5050 MSN uses 1863 AIM uses 5190 Don't quote me on those, but I think that's right. Google lists of TCP/IP ports that messenging apps use and block the heck out of them.

Which process has locked the file I am trying to delete?

Try Process Explorer from Sysinternals. http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/ProcessExplorer.html I think it's exactly what you need.

Converting adobe documents back to word documents

You will probably have to go with a 3rd party app. Google PDF to DOC or PDF to Word and see what pops up. There are tons of apps out there. . .

simple save to PDF format from Word

Check out : http://www.softpile.com/Business/Text_Utilities/Review_20422_index.html I haven't used that program specifically, but if you google "DOC to PDF", a ton of sites will show up. I can't attest to their reliability, but you can't beat the $30 price tag. . . Hope this helps, Martin

System keeps using memory untill it runs out - why?

It may be beneficial to not have scanners performing their real-time functions, but to schedule the tasks for idle times instead. I would disable all startup of these apps, (in msconfig if necessary) and see how it runs.

Antivirus firms consider protection against Sony DRM rootkit

This whole issue is ludicrous and crazy. It's like buying a cassette tape with a spycam inside it to make sure you can't dub it for your buddy. I don't know how this could pass for legal in any sense. Just because you agree to something, even in a contract (or especially in a EULA), doesn't...
