Have you checked the FSB settings on the motherboard along with the appropriate multiplier!
This could also be set in the CMOS settings depending on the manufacturer.
I had just got my PC working perfectly when I decided to load a new game onto my PC and start enjoying it for a change and now its come up with a new problem :-s
After installing a game (Age of Empires) and playing it for a couple of hours (and losing) I closed it up and all my icons had been...
Thanks a lot guys. I think by this I'll keep windows running for my games and stuff. However I do want to try Linux so I'll load it on a partition or possibly on a second PC altogether just to get an idea of what else is available.
First I'll find out some more info on the forum619 as per SMAH.
Sorry for posting here, couldn't find a PC software - General discusion.
I am considering changing over to Linux, simply because I'm not a fan of the microsoft corporation. I have a few concerns though. Firstly will all my applications definately work with Linux including games. Secondly, which...
Can anyone help?
I can't run any video files at all, and we know how important they are to my work :-)
The error message says "The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction" and I can choose close or ignore.
How do I get it to open in 32 bit mode?
Ben,
Not sure what you mean by using an adaptor with the CPU! I could be wrong about the socket type, it's a ZIF slot! I know that much.
I do remember clearing the CMOS but I've tried changing the CPU a few times so not sure if I did it after the latest change.
As for the FSB jumpering, those...
I bought a Zorra ATX case a while ago. It worked fine for a while with a P3 450Mhz (socket 1) CPU but after upgrading to a P3 733 Mhz (Socket A) CPU it has failed to work.
As soon as I plug the power cable in it starts the fans turning and the CD lights start flashing and there is a 1 second...
I recently studied at compupeople in High Barnet. They allow people to take the exams without doing the course although some exams they offer discounts to people who have taken the exam.
got to www.compupeople.co.uk for more info.

I have recently passes the 210 and 215 exams and am still finding it difficult to find a job.
I'm not in a position to be able to build on these yet.
Could anyone suggest maybe what sort of jobs I should be going for or what the best way of going about it is.
I rechecked the CPU and heatsink and it looked like there wasn't enough thermal paste on the contact point (looked like it had all been pushed to the side) also I think the heatsink was on the wrong way round.
I've added some new thermal paste and put the heatsink on the right way round but...
I have bought a stylish Zorro ATX case which I thought would look good. I had my PC in before and it worked fine for a couple of months.
Now it has gone odd on me, whenever I plug it in it sort of powers up. All the fans start, the CD roms both power up but there's no monitor or HD power. The...
Thanx All,
unfortunately my mobo does not support these features so I will be looking to purchase a new mobo. Its about time I stepped up to a P4 anyway. I've got the PSU, its a start now just the mobo, processor, heatsink/fan and AGP card :-s
I'll keep a print out of these and save the link...
I have bought a new Zorro ZTX case and have put a MSI K7T Turbo2 motherboard in.
I've built up a couple of PCs in the past but they have all been pretty much identical :-s
The problem is the plugs that are part of the case (IE power, reset, speakers etc). I can figure out those three plugs its...
I have installed W2K on my PC. In the process I decided for some reason to convert my drive to NTFS. I also neglected to creat any partitions.
Now I want to create a Dos partition and I don't even know where to start.
Also, would it be advisable to go back to FAT32 instead!
