hello.

i put in a new mobo and graphic card into my computer. when i turn the computer on, the RED light on the case remains on. i can see all the fans spinning. lights from the floppy, cd, cdrw all comes on and off just like when it is going through a normal boot up. there's no beep. nothing is displayed on the monitor. the monitor power light turns orange, just like there's no pc attached to it.

where should i look into??? thanks.

Well, best thing to do to start would be to re-set your bios, could be something there causing the problem. I am guessing you havent got it to boot at all yet, this is the first try?
As for the bios reset please consult your manual as they difer on how to do the bios reset.
If you can get to the point where you get something on the screen then go into bios and use the "default standard, or minimum settings" selection for now. The wording differs a bit but i imagine you know what i am talking about?
That is in addition to doing a bios re-set.

Should the bios re-set fail then strip the system down to the basics with only one ram, video, cpu\hs\fan, keyboard and mouse plugged in, nothing else, take out all other items and try and boot. If not then try bios re-set again with all the extra items not plugged into the system.

If all else fails, go back to square one. Remove the mother board and set it on the box it came in. Hook up the power supply, keyboard, CPU (with cooler), memory (one stick). and video card. If this works, put just this much back into case and give it a try. If it won't work this way, look for metal stand-offs in the wrong place (look at bottom of mobo, should be a solder pad at any mounting point.) If it works, attach hard drive and mouse to see if it will boot up. If so, start adding things back, until you find what is killing it.

For the main boards I know, no beep says either the speakers not operational (if it's not on the m.b.; not conected) or it's not completing the power on self test. Like suggested, I'd start over, assembling & testing it part at a time. But before that, I'd go back to the basics & recheck the specs; like is the mem, cpu, video adapter & power supply compatable?

Yes, this is a first try. No luck in boot up yet.

I tried disconnect all drives (hd, floppy, cd...) and took out the ram, still no beep. the light on the front of the case remains RED. Nothing comes on the monitor.

How can I know if the mobo and cpu are good. I bought both together.

Thanks.

Does the mobo have on-board graphics controller? If so try connecting the monitor to that instead of the graphics card.

How about giving us the specs and detail of the mobo?
Do you have it out of the case?
If its Penium 4, do you have the 4 pin 12 volt connector connected?

no, the mobo doesn't have on board graphics.

specs of pc
ASRock PV488 motherboard
intel celeron d 2.66ghz cpu
1gb pc3200 ram
120gb hd
PNY Verto GeForce FX 5700 VE 256MB graphics card

thanks.

You said above you took out the ram, you have to have at least leave one stick of ram in. You want to have the barest minimum, ram, video, mouse, keyboard, cpu\hs\fan, power supply.
Do you have both the 20 pin and the 4 pin power supply connectors connected to the mobo?
Sorry, have to ask, some people forget the 4 pin connection.
