Rather than use Carbon Copy Cloner, use Mie Bombich's excellent Netrestore.
1. Create your 'master' computer - install all apps
2. If possible, boot from External Firewire drive (or you could boot another machine and attached your master computer with Target Disk mode)
3. Use NetRestore...
I would wait until at least 10.4.1 comes out. It's rumoured to be in the hands of developers now.
Tiger seems to be full of bugs at the moment. A lot of networking / finder bugs.
My experience is not fantastic. Some major annoyances but only a couple of crashes.
And bloody annoying network /...
I find Google's popup blocker download a great help with IE...in addition to SpyBotS&D, Ad-aware and spyblaster.
I also try and do most of my browsing with opera.
I recently did this with a laptop. Purchased full XP pro and performed an upgrade rather than a clean install.
I did have 2 apps that needed re-installing but other than that it was a painless procedure.
Oh, expect I forgot to activate it so now I only have 1 day left todo it! Mustn't forget!!
Well as this is in a school, I have at least 3 notebooks to 'upgrade'
I'd prefer to upgrade rather than re-install in this case due to the amount of Apps etc installed.
I guess we'll see how it goes!
okay, simple question here...
we have some laptops with XP home pre-installed - what is the best way toupgrade to XP Pro?
Is there an Upgrade CD available?
or do I have to just purchase XP PRO and install from scratch ?
Thanks,
Jamie

Many Thanks for your quick reply!

OK, not sure this is the correct forum but....
A local school has a number of Win2k based laptops with wireless cards. These laptops also have a standard 10/100 NIC built in.
They have asked for the abililty to switch, on-the-fly between using the wired and wireless network.
So is there any...
Could be a DNS problem.
Check the DNS setting of your workstation is the IP address of your server.
Also, make sure your server has it's DNS service configured correctly
Hello all.
Please forgive these simple questions!.....
I have a Win2k server and I believe I have setup VPN correctly. I can connect (by VPN) internally to the server by entering the local, private IP address (192.168.0.x)
Now, obviously I want to connect from home! At the office I have a...
:(
Okay, thanks. I'll keep checking for firmware.
Belkin tech. support told me that the problem is because the card isn't getting it's config before windows starts. Well, I figured that one! He suggested using the 'Net Use' command in autoexec.bat. Can't seem to get anything working with the...
Yep, done that! Like I said, perfoming no logon, then logging off and logging on again works.
At first i thought the card wasn't picking up an IP address for the laptop. But now that is set manually, I'm stuck!
Help! I have some Win98 laptops connected wirelessly to a 54mb Belkin AP using Belkin 54g PCMCIA card. I can't log on to the fileserver from a 'cold boot'
If I cancel the log on dialog box on Win98, arrive at the Windows desktop and log off, I can then log on to the fileserver as normal. TCP/IP...
although I'm a relative begginer to this, I found Kixtart an extremley powerful tool, rather than a 'workaround'
As I understand it, certain variables simply aren't available with Win9X

Jamie
