Simple Question - XP Home to Pro

okay, simple question here...

we have some laptops with XP home pre-installed - what is the best way toupgrade to XP Pro?

Is there an Upgrade CD available?

or do I have to just purchase XP PRO and install from scratch ?

There is nothing simple about an upgrade from Windows Home to Windows XP Pro. And decidedly nothing simple about a notebook upgrade.

I have been fortunate that desktop upgrades from Home to Pro have been problem free. But once the notion of "notebook" enters the equation, it becomes much, much harder to pull off without issue.

It is linney's firm belief that you do nothing other than a clean install for a notebook. I hope the alternative approach can be given equal wait to that viewpoint.

Well as this is in a school, I have at least 3 notebooks to 'upgrade'

I'd prefer to upgrade rather than re-install in this case due to the amount of Apps etc installed.

I guess we'll see how it goes!

I have done tons of these upgrades on notebooks without issue.
