    Sounds like you have to redine the arrays - you can download and burn the IBM SUPPORT CD and documentation from http://www-306.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-39723. Once you have redefined the arrays you should be able to reinstall your O/S.

    If you boot from the XP disk and start the installl you can remove the current partition and create a new one which you will then have to format, XP gives you the choice of NTFS or FAT32.

    Random Harware Issue

    Sounds like your hard drive is starting to go south, I have seen this problem with a number of Maxtor drives. Eventually the drive will not be recognized by the system. I would try running the system with a different drive, see if that solves your problem.
