Is there a MAIN POWER FUSE ON THE MOTHER BOARD OF THESE?

I have a few of these that will not boot up.

The first one was a good working machine.

When I first got it, it would do absolutely nothing until I replaced the POWER JACK on the Motherboard.

WORKED LIKE A CHARM....UNTIL....

One day I decided to try to use the USB Port.

As soon as I plugged something into it, every thing went dead.

It was then that I realized there was no insulator in the USB Jack, so I figured I had shorted something out.

Since then, I have acquired a few more of these and they all exhibit the same behavior:

Green light comes on showing they are receiving power, but no boot up.

Is there an expert in this Forum that can lead me to a solution?

Thanx in advance.

One solution for all? you'll be lucky!
Each machine is likely to have a differant reason for not booting and they can be many.
Dead PSU
Bad memory
Faulty hard drive
Corrupted O/S
Bad motherboard
Bad CPU
etc
etc

Safe Mode?
DOS?
can you get into BIOS?
need system restore cds - possibly the BIOS is on the HDD and was deleted when trying to reformat (you or someone else)...so poof - no chip + deleted HDD partition = no code

When I touch the Power Switch, nothing happens.

Therefore, no dos, no safe mode. Not even a screen or fan.

Again, other than the NEW MB, all components worked once.

Perhaps it is the Processor.

But I think it may be power related.

Thanx for the replys.

There is a fuse in the power supply - usually if it blows you end up replacing the power supply. IF you are working on a few different machines that all have the same problem you would be well advised to buy a good 300 plus watt powersupply, gauranteed that one of your machines has a dead one.

This is a Laptop with an external Power supply.

I get power from that unit, I have a green light on the front panel, but nothing happens when I push the on switch.

I was wondering if there's a fuse on the Motherboard.

Thanx for the reply.
