I was able to install v10 and it kept all my v9.1 jobs and histories. Just install it on the same server and specify to backup the previous instance. I was informed to also backup the data and catalogs directories in c:\program files\veritas\backupexec\ just in case, but it all worked out okay.
Ive not used a script but have successfully done the export/import. If i remember it stops and starts the firewall services so it may not work in a script.
I have seen this before and it was because the firewall object has been created as a host and not a gateway object. If this is the case you should be able to simply right click the object and select 'convert to gateway...' then follow the wizzrd or prompts.

I have not changed platforms with the Import/Export utility but I have successfully restored a previous config. onto a compltetely new system. Rules, objects and even users were completely restored. You want to be sure to do a backup first in case you do need to restore...
