During installation of Win2k Pro, there is a point where it'll ask you,
---
Users of This Computer
Who can log on to this computer?
You can require all users to enter a user name and password to log on, or you can have Windows assume the same user will always log on to this computer...
Only computer on network? If not, than does other computers get name resolution with same DNS settings?
Despite having the right setting, does IPCONFIG/WINIPCFG return the right subnet? Do you get dynamic or static IP? If Dynamic try entering a static address and subnet.
BTW, which IP of the server did you try to ping? Since your 1st floor computer is assigned it's IP from your provider, it also get's it's gateway from the provider.
And do you have static IP or dynamic IP from your provider?
If you ping the server's internal IP, of course you can't reach it...
Depending on what you want to do, but the easy solution is to get a hub.
Connect only the server with the 2 NIC to the router.
NIC1 directly to the Router.
NIC2 connected to the Hub.
1st Floor computer conneted to the hub.
Upstair computers connected to the hub.
Of course, with so many...
Actually, I've seen this specific problem with a DHCP and Win98 machines. To overcome this I had to assign static IP addresses to the 98 machines. Not to fix the IP address, but the subnet mask. As someone said, provide the 98 machines with an IP Address outside the DHCP scope.

The OS is Win98.

I'm hoping someone seen this kind of thing...
I worked on a machine with a lot of spyware and the user didn't contact me until his system started to lockup and crash.
I only had a day to work with the machine and with the help of HijackThis! I pretty much fixed most of his problems.
There is however one problem where all his text is...
Reinsatll IE6 and run Spybot and see if that works.
You've got a very aggresive spyware on your hands.
Any info you could give us as to what kind of spyware it is would help.
If you did not run a program that activated this spyware, than for preventive maintenance, make sure programs cannot...
Just adding a bit more to it, it could just be someone fool around with your system and put in that file association without your knowledge and therefore a virus scan wouldn't have found anything at all.
Think of who has access to your machine, a 98 machine, which mean anyone that can walk...
As far as I know, there shouldn't be any association to *.exe files at all, so just delete it.
It seems there was already a virus scan run on your system, therefore the file in question, probably randomly named, has already been deleted.
Look through the rest of your file associations and any...
Wondering the same thing, is it a difference between PCI and AGP?
Why do you have to use a new video card with the new motherboard, just asking.
Try a different video chipset. ATI or Kryo or Savage4 or Matrox.
