When you sent that message internaly did you choose the user from the GAL or type in the broken SMTP adderss into the To: line?
If you do not address it directly to that SMTP address, it will use the x.400 or primary SMTP internally.
Since it did not work from External, that tells me it wasnt...
You are probably right about that. Just rememeber to offline defrag from time to time to keep the database in optimal condition.
I would also say that if the problem is intermittent, then it might be as designed. Read what I posted about that issue recently...

Exchange 2003 has a default retention time setup for all deleted items. You might try to see if Outlook can recover it. It's worth a shot at least. Here are some articles that should help you exercise what options you have available...
Now that would be a different type of logging. That would be object based auditing. You will have enable that on a domain policy and then select the object that you want to audit in the AD. This is as good as it gets.

Well it is never a bad idea to rule out any apps running around Exchange when troubleshooting it. I have not seen any issues, but that is not to say they do not exist.

Actually I think I am mistaken.. This doesnt sound like a Free/Busy issue. Perhaps it has has something to do with CDO and you need an update.

I am not sure what caused that but I would start by making sure your Serial ATA cables (if they are SATA drives) did not come lose. Also make sure the boot order didnt get hosed in the bios.
If that gets you nowhere, you will have to run Setup again from the CD and try to repair the Windows...
Do this test for me please.
1. Create a new mailbox on the 5.5 server. Try to move it to the new 2003 server.
2. Move it back if it moved.
3. Test 2 - Create a new 2003 mailbox and try to move it to 5.5
4. Move it back if it moved.
Tell me what your results are.

Be careful with caching as I have seen it cause many databases issues in the past. Make sure you get yourself a good offline defrag also as I mentioned in another thread.
