Dear All,
The coutn_1[x] is a cosmetic debug trace that (I guess) the programmer forgot (?) to take out of the final release code. It is traced in a separate console window.
It happens when you try to do a restore using a browse by session.
You will probably notice that the nubmber count seems...
You don't mention the version of Arcserve. You need to ensure that "overwrite any tape" is selected in the job (if ASNT or AS7NW).
Also, for AS6.1 you need to edit the ASCONFIG.INI and ensure that overwriteanytape entries are set there. (see below) - ->>

You should have seen an option (I think) to install and use Novell SMS. Backing up via the TSA should use SMS. There are cases where the server can't see the TSA and can't therefore use SMS. The side effects of this are that data is lifted from disk in 8.3 name format and it is uncompressed on...
Could be "open file retry". If you have set it to retry at end of job.
May also have problems with a given file open/lock mode. Try changing this.
I have seen many problems where attempts to back up open files "hang" the job, but this was on Netware. We have had so many...
Pocket,
Also, I had one recently where I had strange problems with a DLT drive. This turned out to be due to Plug-In-And-Pray PCI bus auto-assigning IRQ 11 which was conflicting with the Adaptect SCSI card. Sometimes it worked, sometimes not.
Another strage one was £95 out-of-the-box SCSI...

The fff* errors at the end of an Arcserve error message are Netware errors. Go to the Netware site (often better than CA!). And look the error up there. Failing that do a full google or yahoo search (or whatever) and you should find something.
I just did a quick search but...

We don't use GFS. Pain in the neck. We just label up the tapes with day numbers and overwrite each day on a monthly cycle. Anything more complex when you have people involved is utterly doomed to failure unless you do it yourself!.
Doesn't the log tell you at the end of the previous job...

Putting any sort of concurrent login restrictions on the backup user of a Netware user when running ArcServe is a bad idea. It looks like ArcServe opens a number of connections under the same login name to do the job (as you found out, sometimes as many as 5). Take concurrent login...
EvilOptic may well be right. What are the exact errros?. (look in the log file).
We seem to be having occasional problems with both Arcserve 7 (on standalone servers) and with the Push Agent on production servers. I am convinced that some of the problems related to 100mb/Full Duplex but am...

Whats the Tapeserver log show. Any SCSI errors?. What type of drive ?. (DAT, DLT?)
We had problems with DEC TZ88 firmware D887 (I think!). Not compatible. Check the device compatbility list.
We also have TZ89 and Quantum DLT7000 and have various odd messages. Have also had problems with...
Lola,
Yep, experiencing all the same sorts of problems NW5.1, ArcServe 6.1 upgrading to 7.0. We have about 150 backup servers and this is a real nightmare at the moment.
We have lots of problems with NDS and it is making me wonder why they didn't move over to the NT model of keeping the info...

Check the tapeserver log file and see if there are any SCSI errors in there.
Backing up using an Agent means drilling down into the agents subtree and right-clicking with the mouse on the relevant type of agent and using "Add Object" then filling in the details. This bit seems...

Out of interest , what patches etc. have you applied. There is a small SMDR/SMS fix from Novell that appears to predate SP2 but some files are dated later. I haven't any info on this yet.
What error message do you get ??. Any NW error messages that report fail to close job down ...
I have seen this!. AS7.0 - NW5.1, NDS8.
I believe that either the backup server has lost contact with NDS and needs to be rebooted, or, that the ASMGR manager software has lost contact with the backup server. The design of the interface is poor in my opinion. It helps to change using the...
I have found that Arcserve will "hang" if it encouters some kinds of file. Usually zero byte or open files. My guess is that maybe it is retrying open files at the end of the job. Backup of open files is a constant pain causing all manner of problems. Best bet is to turn off backup of...
