You're not imagining things. We've got a case open with Nortel for this issue. No news on it yet. It's intermittent for us, it usually happens every couple of weeks. If you've come up with a way to always make it happen, by all means let us know so we can get this resolved!
Hence my statement that in general, many client-type VPN connections can be behind a NAT device (since, in my experience, most major vendors support client NAT-traversal or transparency). However, branch office (or site-to-site) tunnel NAT-traversal is rarely seen.
I don't follow what you mean...
So what type of VPN Connection are you trying to set up? We definitely need the specifics, such as are you trying to set up a client tunnel (one from your computer using a specific client, such as the Cisco client or Nortel client), a branch office (or site-to-site) tunnel etc.
In general, many...
V07.01.034 was released pretty quick after this. We didn't have this problem, but I talked to a buddy of mine who's company did. They might be going after Nortel b/c of the cost of all their users not being able to connect for a while.
curtismo, I'm not sure I understand what you're writing there. You upgraded your NVG 3050 to 6.0.7a? The NVG 3050 isn't a Contivity.
I've opened tickets with Nortel for a couple of Vista Client issues and gotten answers on all of them.
There's also 2.5.0.0.019 - I looked at the spreadsheet we keep of this stuff and found that it's not yet officially released (though we got it about 6 months ago). There's a note that it's the same as the official release but needs somebody's signature (not sure what that means)
...the internet. And I wouldn't say VPNs were a weak area for you - you seem to have a better understanding than many. I was just confused as to what *I* might have missed - and like I said - I don't know much about the Netgear products.
Anyway, aquinox, I think that if the problem started when...
I think your ISP is doing one of two things:
1. Blocking all encrypted traffic (usually done to "protect" their network from encrypted p2p file-sharing traffic)
or
2. Trying to get you to upgrade to a business-class agreement. Claiming that encrypted traffic is a security risk is utter nonsense.
Maybe I missed something. I'm not sure I understand your point burtsbees. IPSEC tunnels can be site-to-site (p2p BOT or ABOT) or client tunnels (like your cisco client). A p2p or ABOT is formed between two VPN routers, a client tunnel is formed between a PC and a VPN router (for the most part...
If the problem started when you bought the new linksys modem router, then that is likely the source of your problem. I'm assuming that this is a branch office tunnel. It may very well be that the new router is not passing all of the traffic (there have been issues with all vendors with home...
If you have static IP addresses you can go with either a p2p or an ABOT. As long as the Cisco will pass ISAKMP and ESP traffic and doesn't NAT the traffic then you should be fine. If the Cisco is NATing traffic then you can't set up a branch office tunnel, you'll have to use the 222 in client mode.
Actually the latest software for the 221 is just a few months old. If your vendor has a contract with Nortel for the Contivity they can get the latest software.
The recovery disk is not model dependent. The same recovery disk can be used in a 1700, 2700, 4600 5000 etc. To make one you can put a floppy disk in the drive and make it on the 1700.
Two things -
Check the System->Forwarding on the 1100 and make sure that you are allowing branch office to end user traffic. The other is to make sure that the resources on the other side have routing back across the tunnel. In other words, make sure the PC you have on that LAN knows that the...
You're going about this wrong. First you need to figure out where the slowdown is actually occurring. It seems that currently you don't know.
I would suggest the following:
1. FTP a fairly large file between the sites to measure the speed of the connection, both through the tunnel and outside...
It depends on the situation. Do you have the admin password? If so, you can log in on the console (use the console cable that attaches to the serial port (9600, 8N1, no flow control)), log in, and select it from the menu.
If you do not have the admin password, put it in recovery mode, gui to...
As somebody who's worked with both Nortel and Cisco technical support I have to say that if anything Nortel is somewhat better than Cisco. Not far and away, but there's a difference. And it's only an hourly rate if you don't have a contract or you have a certain type of contract. My company's...
