Greetings -
I have a user who is getting the following error when using the Nortel VPN Client (Version 7) and connecting to a Contivity 1010.

"this build of nortel vpn client has expired according to switch time"

Has anyone seen this before?

Hello SharpAdam
yes we are also beeing stressed about it and I did also quiet some research on it.
if you spend some time searching the Nortel Support page you will find:
Trouble Ticket: Q01689394
Title: Knova: Nortel VPN Client V07_01.031 and V07_01.033 have expiration dates.
Product: VPN Client
Condition: Open
Status: Work in Progress
Found in Release: V7.01
Forecast Release: Review Pending
Submitted Release: v7.01

so its a open issue for them, which we hope they will solve soon, nothing we can do. as for now we are downgrating customers. if you have an idea what to do let us know.

cheers

Quoted from the Nortel Bulletin ID:2007008156, Rev 1

Background:
The NVC version V07_01.031 was inadvertently released with a hidden expiration date of July 15th, 2007 which was left
over from Beta testing. Patch version V07_01.033 has a hidden expiration date of November 14th, 2007.

Analysis:
On or after July 15th, 2007 users with V07_01.031 installed will be able to connect to the VPN Router, but get a message
saying "This build of the Nortel VPN client has expired according to switch time. Exiting." and the client connection is disconnected

Recommendations:
CR Q01689394 has been created for this issue. A patch release version V07_01.034 will be released to address the
issue.

Required Actions:
If a customer is experiencing this issue, there are the following options:

1. Uprade to V07_01.034 when released
2. Downgrade their client to a previous version. The last released version of the client before the V07 version was
V06_01.120.
3. Change the time on the VPN Router. The client is checking the time on the VPN Router after it completes the
authentication process. If the Router reports a time greater that 7/14/2007 the NVC will give the expired error message and log off the user. If the customer changes the time on their VPN Router to 7/14/2007 or earlier, the clients running V07_01.031 will be able to connect. If the customer wants to try this solution they need to be warned about a few things. First, changing the date back will overwrite the logs already on the VPN Router for those previous days. If the customer is doing radius accounting that data will also be overwritten. There may also be issues with changing the time and users logging in with certificates.

V07.01.034 was released pretty quick after this. We didn't have this problem, but I talked to a buddy of mine who's company did. They might be going after Nortel b/c of the cost of all their users not being able to connect for a while.
