In System Properties, go to the Advanced, then Startup and Recovery Settings.
There is a tick box to allow system restart when system failure occurs. Untick this box and see what happens.
do you have any "security" programs like zone alarm or Norton Internet security? These can sometimes be overzealous. Try disabling if you do have one installed.
None of the items have an entry like that listed. i picked one at random and added a key, with 0 as the value.
Restarted computer and the list is populated again! magic!
Thanks!
The list of programs as usually appears is not there, the window just sits there, empty.
Unticking the show updates does nothing.
XP Pro, SP2, all updated.
I don't use system restore, and this has been around for a while anyway.
My users will keep the icon as it makes life easier for them when they need to get the IP for me over the phone. I already know of the websites that tell you the I.P. The VERY point of this posting was to get a desktop shortcut created. Which has been achieved.
Thanks.
bcastnet, thanks for your super VB trick. This will do me beautifully!
mhkwood, the reason I want it in a command or VB format is so
I can save it on my customers' desktops. This would in turn save me talking them through getting the IP from a website, which would only confuse some of the...
Hi,
Does anyone know of a command that can be used to check the WAN I.P Address, assigned or static, from ISP?
For example: I have a router which assigns addresses in the 192.168.x.x range. My ISP, gives me an I.P. in the 80.x.x.x range.
With ipconfig on any LAN machine, i can get it's I.P...
You don't say whether you are logging into a domain or just xp local security.
Have you tried safe mode (step by step sometimes gives a surprisingly good idea of what is holding it up) or a different login account?
Hi,
Using the "shutdown -s" command, i can create a shortcut with icon to click that will shut down the computer. I can also do a restart, adn lock computer shortcut.
Is there a way to do the same for hibernating the computer?
Or a 3rd party applet that will enable this?
Thanks.
have you run a pre-install scan of the system to ensure it's not already infected with a virus?
Also, try copying the installation to the hard drive, so that
the CD drive is NOT used while installing. It may be a power issue, but you would experience that with other CDs if that was the...
No, that doesn't start either. Similar error, except it can't tell me why it wasn't able to start. I had a look at all the dependencies for all the non started exchange services, and tried to start each of them in different order, but none work. I am going to try and install service pack 1, and...
Sorry, you're right, I couldn't be more vague than that!
Could not start the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service on local computer. Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start.
When I first went into Internet Services Manager, there were red stop signs next to the 3...
MORE THAN LIKELY:
Your mail is being rejected by the 3rd party email server, because it thinks your server is sending spam.
THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS:
The email comes from supposedly yourdomain.com, but it's actually travelled through isp.com's servers, so is yourdomain.com trying to "relay" the...
I have a single server at home running Windows 2000 Server (SP4). It had Exchange 2000 running on it.
A couple of days ago I popped in the Exchange 2003 CD. It asked to upgrade the ADC connector, run forestprep and domain prep.
All ran fine. Finished the upgrade process, as far as the disk...
am starting a new job soon and they are going to loan me the books I need for any qualification, so I should be OK for this. I will look at the books by the doctors, that should be interesting for sure!
Thanks all for your tips.
I don't have an smtp server running, just a windows 2000 server with exchange 2000.
Suddenly, since late 25th May, I have not received any mail from outside, and I cannot send mail out to the internet.
No errors in event viewer, email senders get a messages saying the message has been delayed...
