Someone I know is abroad and books are really cheap.
I have been contemplating MCSE for ages and it's time to go ahead and start.

I wanted to ask what the best study guides are for the 4 core exams, so I can ask for them to be brought back for me.

Please give me your thoughts on what publisher/author has the best books for the core exams for MCSE Windows 2003. What books are best for learning and what are best for passing exams? What did you use? What did you like about it?

Thanks very much

I'm just starting out as far the MCSE/MCSA goes, and from everything I've read, the Microsoft Press books get good marks.

Of course I haven't taken any exams yet, so if I fail one, I may come back with the opposite opinion!

i prefered (and still prefer) the sybex books. written a little more human than the micorsoft books.

Thank you both for your answers. My friend has seen some of the books and realised that they are too bulky to bring back so I'm gonna spend some more time browsing through the MS and sybex books before buying.

pritska,

Take a look at any MS cert books written by the husband and wife team of; Thomas W. Shinder, and Debra Littlejohn Shinder.

These two are practing Medical Docters and surgeons. They write Great certification books. Great as in explanations, and langauge.
Their books are well laid out, with lots of highlights particularly important topics and thoughts. As well as Test tips.
Each chapter is headed by the Cert Objectives (as diected by Microsoft), located beginning of chapter.
A Summary of the Chapter follows, at the end. Just before the chapter questions. (answers at end of Chapter)
Also, Labs where appropriate.
I won't this is the only book you will need, but it is a must have, and maybe your other books can be use to support it?
Look for it at the Bookstore, and browse through it, you might like it.

I agree the MS Press 2003 core requirements training kit are the best. Though ready several diffents ones helps.

Get hold of Trancender practice tests but the ones included in the test kit are good.

If you can get hold of the core requirements for less than £135 let me know.. This is the Borders price.

Roary :)

am starting a new job soon and they are going to loan me the books I need for any qualification, so I should be OK for this. I will look at the books by the doctors, that should be interesting for sure!

Thanks all for your tips.

roary,

I don't know if this helps, but I get almost all of my books from bookpool.com. Since I'm in the US, they ship for free, but with shipping to the UK, the total is USD 178.86.

Converting this to GBP (at xe.com), the price would be £98.70.
