We've an old Hipath 3800, support dropped a while ago so we've been making basic changes ourselves. It's due for replacement, but it probably won't happen until next year.
We have many hunt groups configured, and for reception cover we started forwarding the reception phone to one of the spare...
Something like this, but you'll need to check product specs on the manufacturer's site.

Hi there,
I imagine they are all PCI, you'd need the connection to the motherboard. I suspect that they have a battery pack in-built in, can PCI devices be powered in the same way network cards can?

Yes, it's pretty easy to do; I did it with my home PC and Harmony. Easy that is, provided you have the kit for the job.
What you'll need is a TV/Tuner/Video card that has the ability to turn on the PC. They are cheap, I picked one up from ebay for £15. You don't need to worry about features...
An infected computer with domain admin rights can infect most of the network very quickly; a local administrator account will only compromise the machine.
Our network is locked down quite tightly, but I still practice the same methodology. A workstation should never really need to be logged in...
Or you could turn your desk into a PC case! Some cupboards make wonderful cases.

I would recommend downloading the latest drivers and installing them; regardless of whether Windows reports functioning drivers.

The data doesn't have to go over the physical layer to show up in the statistics. Any local traffic across localhost/127.0.0.1 and the like will show up.

CentOS is basically Redhat; it's well tested and solid. Ubuntu is more 'bleeding edge', but due to the size of it's user base (and a large portion of them being novices), you are far more likely to find answers to problems encountered.

If it's a true RAID controller, it should do.

I suppose for smaller installations that is true, but LTO it still an attractively priced. We picked our drive up for under £1000, and the tapes were £30 each.
I completely missed the part where the OP mentioned it being a home PC!

With a relatively cheap LTO4 drive being able to store up to 1.6TB compressed on a single tape, I can't see optical media ever catching it up in either price or capacity.

One of our Top Dogs loves his VAIO (if it's good enough for James Bond...), the repair bills have never been pleasant.

It may well support hardware RAID, which is transparent, but your on-board RAID will be fake RAID. Is that supported?

For the price of repairing anything Sony, I'd get a new one.

Ah much obliged; Wiki put also it much more eloquently!

I believe AMD license their 64 tech to Intel, as Intel do to AMD with their 32 tech. Both companies would be screwed if either broke this symbiotic relationship.

I'd personally just sniff the network, you can then filter by DHCP requests and responses. Look at ethereal etc for windows or tcpdump in *nix.

You'd be better off giving the police all the information you have and leaving it at that. You'll only raise suspicion and the machine will get wiped.
