Everytime I save an .eps with my Illustrator CS4 it creates two files. The original file with bleed and an .01 file which doesn't transfer with bleeds. When I make a correction on the original file, it only corrects the 01 file. If I discard the 01 file and save to the original file I get an 01...
Thank you both for your quick responses!
The preferences thing is exactly what I needed. I wonder why that didn't show up in any of my searches! (I would have changed everything to another spot color but I couldn't change the stupid image.) Good trick with making it 99%, too... I may have to do...
I'm having problems outputting a customer's file to plate. It has black type and a greyscale image on a spot background. I need the text to knockout so the red spot color doesn't kill it. The image knocks out, but the type keeps overprinting. Here's a quick sample of what I mean. The actual...
Did you create the eps file? What program was it created in? Do you get an error or does it just look bad? If you don't have a PostScript printer, eps files will look terrible when printed from Quark, but as long as it's OK in Usage your service provider should be fine.
I had luck fixing that with the "Reduce File Size" option within Acrobat Professional (File menu), although it was natively from InDesign not Quark. It doesn't effect the image quality - just cleans up excess info and makes a smaller file. I use it on every pdf with very few problems :)
Also...
I'm glad to hear you solved the link problem, but I want to warn you about using wmf files. If this is just something you're printing yourself or if it's black and white, don't worry about it. But if you're sending this out for full- or spot-color printing that needs separations you're going to...
You've probably already brought your job to the printer, but I just want to stress to ask your printer before you bring any files -- or even before you start. Many print shops still don't accept InDesign and some, believe it or not, don't like pdf files either. I'm sure it's a matter of their...
This also makes me wonder about your printer.... I work at a small print shop and we can use ai files, but I prefer eps. I've dealt with other shops that can't use ai but CAN use eps and that's how I usually save my work when it's going to a vendor (or pdf). If your printer can accept InDesign...
I would take a closer look at the things that are coming out wrong. Is there something they have in common?
- Check all the fonts in your file. Is the text that's changing the same font or is it random? Do you maybe have 2 versions of the same font active by accident? (I've had, for example...
It's generally better practice to use Layer Masks rather than the eraser. That way you don't alter the original picture and it's easier to go back and change something. Just toss the mask and make a new selection instead of starting all over with the eraser. You should give it a shot.
I was having this problem with Photoshop that double-clicking on a file would go to Photoshop but not open the file. I was also getting a missing support file error message when PS opened. The problem began after upgrading from OS10.3 to OS10.4. Here is the solution...
Could it be that Quark 4.1 is not compatible with eps files saved from Photoshop CS? Does that make a difference to Quark? I know it can be a problem with Illustrator EPS files...
Select the layer you want to work on (CTRL + Click on it I think for PC; Cmd + Click on Mac) or hide the others and then play around with the things under Image > Adjustments. I usually use Selective Color. Save a copy of your layers before you start messing with them, so you have something to...
