Don't confuse coincidence with the cause. Possibly you made the second connector correct and the original was not punched down correctly. I would be curious to know how you resolved this.

Leviton is what we use. Easy, no special tools, and a decent price. We install several thousand cables per year.

To start just get a 4 pair continuity tester for about $40 bucks. This will tell you 99% of what you need to know. If all your pairs are showing good you should assume you have POE or it's a switch issue. Or in case of unifi your AP will light up. No need to spend $20,000.00. Make some...
Most likely your fiber cord that has a dark center is broken. Maybe these are hand polished connectors your looking at? Whenever the core is dark it's because he glass broke.

Most things gray in my experience are either for power or underground. Orange is definitely the color for indderduct in buildings. Most everyone knows what's inside. We quit running innder duct years ago and just used plenum armored fiber in buildings now. It's actually cheaper than inner...
So the short answer is Cat 6 is rated at a higher throughput Mhz for a specific distance compared to Cat5e. I don't think you can even buy just plain Cat5 anymore or why would you. Everything is now cat6 pretty much.

Follow the B pattern. No one uses A series anymore. 99.999% of all Ethernet cabling is B series. Basically the green and orange reverse which is the diff from A and B.

Ebay will quickly tell you the value. Some Nortel will sell and some is trash. Be careful not to fill your garage up with stuff that will not move. List it as a bid item and if no one bids then quickly get rid of it.
Just my opinion of course but we do lots of this.

I think the power pair which would prob be either black/yellow or on a cat5 jack the green pair is shorted or fried in the port. If the phone works on all ports but x12 then I would either use a diff port or if I did not have any add an expansion module. I have never heard of the shorting...

Prob all your info has not propagated through out all the LECS networks. I imagine the side that is cut off is giving you the all circuits are busy through POTS lines but cell carriers have updated data and routes the call appropriately. I have seen this before other types of lines. I can't...
1 Ft Cat5e. You could make one out of shielded if you have it. I have used regular 1m cat5e parch cords and never had a problem.
