Partner ACS R6 "partially" dead extension

Hello, I am the lead I.T. Person at my work. This is my first post on this forum so bear with me.

We have an Avaya Partner ACS Release 6 (Standalone) as our system for our small office. It works perfectly fine except for Extension 12. The ETR functionality is not there. Therefore a system phone will not function on that extension. A display phone will go through an infinite power cycle during which the display backlight will flash slowly.
However the two inner wires (T/R) work fine when I hook a standard telephone to the port.

I have remember hearing in the past of these ACS systems having issues where when the outer pairs are shorted while the system is powered down. It would damage the extension.

What I would like to know is...
Is this common and can it be repaired.

If not I can still put an Astra M9000 on the extension.
 
Start w/ a system reboot (#728 in system admin) Often this will clear any transiate errors. If you are able to peer into the port,you may find a pin issue. Expansion, will add 8-more ext. ports.
 
I think the power pair which would prob be either black/yellow or on a cat5 jack the green pair is shorted or fried in the port. If the phone works on all ports but x12 then I would either use a diff port or if I did not have any add an expansion module. I have never heard of the shorting scenario you mentioned. Partner systems are workhorses but the ports do get messed up occasionally as any system does.

Yes, it's common as it is with any system that has ports. It could be repaired but you would have to send the processor to someone to refurb it. Would be cheaper to add a two-slot carrier and an expansion module.

If it does end up being a problem with the processor itself, I would suggest swapping it out with an R8 processor (which is the final release). [smile]
