I asked a question in the Oracle 10g forum and received an answer that referred to the Oracle documentation as "Propaganda".
Merriam-Webster said:
the spreading of ideas, information, or rumor for the purpose of helping or injuring an institution, a cause, or a person
I usually think of propaganda as negative and was surprised that it can also be used to help. Can you think of other words that are typically thought of in one vein but may be the other?

Great question. Many words have default connotations, some positive and some negative, which often differs from the denotation.

When someone says "You Smell!" It doesn't necessarily mean bad:)

Like political propaganda, knocks down their opponents which therefore helps them look better. I guess it all depends on who's side your looking from.

One might also consider words where recent slang usage has given the opposite meaning
'wicked'
'bad'

or even unusual words where current spellings have combined different origins
'cleave' usually means to split asunder, but also can mean to join together.

sbudzynski,

[tab]Does your wife/girlfriend believe you when you tell them that? [lol]

James, I don't know if my girlfriend believes me or not. Mainly because after I make a statement like that, its very difficult for me to explain my meaning from the couch (haha)

Smuel Johnson, the author, not known for being fastidious, entered a carriage. The lady who was there, her nose offendened at this olfactory assault, declared, "Sir, you smell!"

Johnson replied, "No, Madam, you are wrong. You smell, I stink."

If you do succeed, you have properly applied your propaganda campaign. :)

If I do succeed, we, as men, have made large advances into the woman frontier and should all rejoice (aka party!).

LOL - I didn't mean first or third person, I meant singular or plural.

As a man I'm happy to share sbudzynski's spoils of the gender war, so long as he're err we're successful.

I understand MrMilson. I guess sbudzynski didn't have his cell phone with him when he was being taught about number consistency in writing. :)

I'm confused CC, my grammar skills are not close to the skills of yours and am therefore unable to understand your confusion. Isn't we as men plural because its talking about we as men in the world? I, of course is singular, because I am doing battle against my girlfriend, but my singular victory will be a great leap for all men (plural).

Forgive my confusion but I'm just a child! (lol)

Mr. Milson/Wilson, the spoils will be shared but are you ready to suit up and join me in battle, many will be lost but much will be gained!
