Pen vs. PC

Interesting article.

Along those lines, I find that after having used the various Palm PDAs over the years, I sometimes start "writing" in graffiti on paper. I find it is sometimes faster for taking notes and I have no problems with "reading" it later. Its basically a new version of shorthand.

Typing isn't even called typing anymore, what with the PC having made the typewriter as quaint as a Conestoga wagon. Now referred to as keyboarding

Hmm, that's the first time I've ever heard typing called "keyboarding" in my life.

Carlsberg don't run I.T departments, but if they did they'd probably be more fun.

I've heard typing called "keyboarding" but it is not widely used.

I took "keyboarding" in Junior high, umm...15 years ago (+/-) and it was first semster on electric typewriters, second semester on super-cool IBM PS/2s.

My children learned "keyboarding." Typing was an optional class when I in school. When I "discovered" personal computers in the early '80's (via Atari 800) I taught myself how to "type."

I have had the [italics]pleasure[/italics] of "keyboarding" on IBM 029 keypunch machines... they make great confetti. [lookaround]

In the age where we want to shorten all words into abbreviations for ease of use in text messaging and email, I think it's humorous they're trying to modify the word "typing" into "keyboarding." Must be some old person that decided to change the name... I've heard "keying" used in conversation and seen it typed, but never "keyboarding."

Keyboarding? I'm sorry, I just get a picture of a 80's tech-rock-punk guy dressed in a bad suit surfing on an electric keyboard.

Personally, I can't see anything in this article that doesn't make me feel anything but stupider than having read it.

Seriously, this is the private-sector equivalent of running a study to find out that running studies costs money.

Step 1: Find an aspect of society that has seen technolgical advancements that have led to societal changes.

Step 2: Ask if the lower tech form is still better than the current form (quick hint, if the new form survies then it must have at least 1 signficant advantage - so there will always be a strong arguement for 'yes')

Step 3: Report Duh! facts that everyone understands and wouldn't shock anyone who didn't conciously think about it as if they are groundbreaking.

If the author wants to replace "the pen is mightier than the sword" with "the keyboard is more 1337 than the nuke", fine.

But jeez, way to mangle the entire concept behind the 'pen' in the quoation.
