I have recently started using shadow copy feature on 2003 servers.
From what i see the destination ( where you store shadow copy) you dont even see any files via windows exporer, you can however see the disk space being used up.
However, i have not tried to restored the servers with VSS on (...
You can also do manual backups while putting the clients in the default group and trun on vvv.
i.e savegrp -vvv -p -l full -G group name
This should generate some usefull errors, you can also try and run a manual backup from cleint side, make sure you have atleast one tape labled Default.
Also...
At some point the machine you are trying to add must have been on administrators list ( check setup server tap-admin list), since the server moved to different zone ( Networker server) it must be added to admin list if required. ( addding to admin list will allow you to connect networker...
I suspect the problem might have occured due to confuson between scsi id between the jukebox and standalone tape drive, in my openioun may not be good idea to mix external tape drive with another library on the same server.
In other words, when networker issues command to tape0 the changer 0 may...
There may be sequience in which legato does name resolution, is it true that if the client is created with short name then it defaults to DNS first, either way you may want to stick to one method.
Check to see wheather you created the library correctly on storage node ( or device) i think default block size by which networker writes to the tape might be 64k, i would also run all the diagnostics avallable for the device and tape systems that you are having issues with, if needed recreate...
Save.exe belongs to Legato, however, it generally does not consume that much of memory or cpu, there must be something wrong in the config or the server is setup improperly, could be that another process is taking up cpu\imcompatibility or conflit with another software ?
typically, save.ext...
If you are unable to update the enabler you might have to re-install the networker ( uninstall without removing original path, files, db etc) then you should be able to update it again.
You might be able to get assistance from Legato licence support and check out nsrcap man page.
You should not...
When you leave the index path blank it might have created secound index for the client under default index directory, if the original install path was not followed, this might have created 3rd location for the inded ( original, moved, new install path).
You should also run the usuall index check...
rpcinfo -p 'nombre_servidor(legato_server_name)'
What do you not understand about the above cmd he sugested, quite whining, he gave a usefull tip, spanish or not, dont want to use it then dont, some of us will.
I have exactly the same situation with couple of my Windows client, like "605" said, try and consolidate the directories first (simplifying client managment), then slit them up between multiple clients, keep the Index directory same on all client (?), other tips may include utilizing JUMBO...
Well, if your drives are also compressing data, i though compressing again with software was not recomended, except for better utilizing WAN and in some cases Network, may be unix is more efficiant, but in my case i use no compreson on any of my 120 windows client only HW compreson on the...
Double check Legato's compatibilty Guide, Drive may not work on XP?
Make sure Adaptec or other SCSI driver is configured correctly, check adaptor BIOS, you may have to disable domain validation, drop scsi speed to 80 and other settings in some cases, also check XP settings including...
Try command as below to make sure your Tape drive is registered in windows.
inquire from nsr\bin directory.
tapes form nsr\bin
Some times if you have more then one drive, confirm SCSI IDs and order, it is possible for networker to be confused in some situation where cabeling is done incorectly...
Also dont forget the instalation requirements as specified in DR guide of Networker, you need to ensure same IP settings, resolve domain name, have same directory structure and computer name etc for DR to be sucessfull.
The best thing to do it practice it a few times, if you have external tape...
Invest is fastest Raid configuration\Card, LTO-3 and USCSI320 cards, You can use Networker to break down server load by creating multiple clients, saveset to better stream the DATA.
If this dont do it you need to invest in Snapshot technology and use full copy to backup leasurly.
Why not just get the LTO-1, its fast as hell, especially if you are going form DAT to LTO, and media is cheap apx 23 and commpresed backup is 200 GB per tape.
However, they should be end of life in next year or two, if you could not get another upgrade in say 2 years then look into LTO-2 atleast...
I use networker and i feel its the fastest and simplest one out there, however reporting and tape managment is not so strong, you may need to suppliment that areas by thrid party, i have also recovered over for over 4 years the legato system in DR, not much problem there, does your backup...
