Hello,

is were any possibility to backup a windows XP client with the networker if it is only a DHCP client with no entry in the DNS?

The client is registered in the hosts file of the backup server. After this entry the could connect with the networker user from the client to the server.
But the backup from ther server got a time out.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds weird: You are using DHCP and the hosts table?
Of course you can tie DHCP to use a specific address but why do you use the hosts file as well.

Anyway, NetWorker would not care - it just uses whatever the OS uses to resolve the hostsname. The only thing you should not do is using DHCP for a NW server. But for a client, there is no general problem.

There may be sequience in which legato does name resolution, is it true that if the client is created with short name then it defaults to DNS first, either way you may want to stick to one method.

NW does the name resolution the way the OS uses it (gethostbyname).

In fact if you are a domain member, NW does insist (since a while) that you define the client with its FQDN. However, it also adds the chort name to the client's alias list.
