    Dual/Quad core processor and Licenses

For the BOE XI R2 product line I can confirm the must purchase .5 CPU "licenses" for each core after the first. Does anyone have a link or reference to the terms back from Crystal Enterprise 10? I can't find anything left on their website--it all seems to have been taken down even though I've...

    CE10: Request timed out...webReporting.dll

Environment is an ASP-based application which renders reports from CE10 via managed reporting. Datasources for the reports are xml files accessed through ODBC connection defined on the CE10 server. When the application hands off report rendering to the CE server, it times out after 10 minutes...

Unable to start CE10 Web Component Server

Thanks for the help, Turkbear. That was part of the problem--I actually had to remove and re-add all of the servers, but only after our network guys made one additional change to the server in question: apparently, the server still lived in the wrong domain, and some of the "log on as" accounts...

Unable to start CE10 Web Component Server

While troubleshooting a network problem, the network group at my company made a DNS change this morning. A server was listed with two different IP addresses and two different names (we'll call them "server.company.com" and "server.domainabbreviation.company.com"). The invalid name and IP were...

    Performance Tuning for CE 10

My apologies. I am wrong if you're talking about Concurrent or Named User licensing. However, the information I posted does apply to CPU licensing, and is the information I received directly from Business Objects themselves. I had just inferred from how mwake phrased the original posting that...

    Performance Tuning for CE 10

Yes, according to BO with CE10 you need a CPU license per processor. Same would go for a single dual-core CPU: that requires two CPU licenses. Hyperthreaded CPUs, however, do not require additional Processor licenses...but hyperthreading is not officially supported.

Multiple SDK Versions on same computer?

Hi all, I asked this question back in May of 2005 but didn't get any responses. The situation has come up again and I'm wondering if anyone has any insight? The question is, has anyone successfully installed the CE9 and CE10 SDKs side by side on the same computer? Note that these are...

    Hyperthreading / Dual Core licensing?

We're looking to purchase some new hardware for our CE 10 server. We currently run on a single CPU, no hyperthreading, single core; we have a CPU license. So far I've only found this article regarding hyperthreading: http://support.businessobjects.com/library/kbase/articles/c2015349.asp --Has...

Separate Data and Indexes to different disks?

Thanks for all the help everyone. For future reference, I finally found a specific reference about this in SQL Server 2000 Performance Tuning by MS Press: "You can improve performance in some cases by locating nonclustered indexes on separate physical disks from the data tables...

Separate Data and Indexes to different disks?

Hi mrdenny, -We have Autostats set to ON. -Defrag currently occurs weekly, although we have tried various schedules for that. I can't answer your third question--but that's because I don't know how to just yet! Unfortunately, I am not a DBA, just a very detail-oriented developer. This is one...

Separate Data and Indexes to different disks?

Nothing else on the G drive--it's strictly the non-clustered indexes. I'm not an expert in RAID either, but I am currently looking at the hardware breakdown within each drive (controller cards, channels, # of physical disks, etc.). There is a TON of read activity on the SQL Indexes drive, and...

Separate Data and Indexes to different disks?

I'm looking for some resources which talk about pro's and con's of separating non-clustered indexes from data files onto separate filegroups and/or physical disks. I've found numerous resources which stress the importance of separating log files from data files, but when you start to look for...

Report Application Server service Stops - Why?

With RAS under v9, if two computers on the same domain tried to start up the RAS service using the same keycode, one of them would get shut down immediately. So, depending on who boots up their PC first, or if they have to reboot during the day, you might see one service or the other stop...

Multiple SDK versions on a single computer?

Has anyone tried installing both the CE9 and CE10 SDKs on the same computer, and used them both with success? I'm not talking about installing the full CE product--the idea would be that one machine could host two different applications. Each app is configured to pass requests to a different CE...

Dynamically setting parameters for scheduled reports

...one more thing I forgot to mention... Your date logic in the stored procedure can't be something like 'currentdate + 8' or 'currentdate - 7'. The key is being able to establish a business rule for a timeframe like "a full 24 hour period" or "a full week". Then, you compare the current...

Dynamically setting parameters for scheduled reports

We have a situation where we also run some reports regularly, whether that is daily or weekly. Here's how we got around the problem (using CE 9): In our case, our reports run off of stored procedures. We designed the stored procedures to expect a start and end date as parameters (you could...

How to Open Crystal Report from asp page?

The .exe files should just be self-extracting executables. I believe they prompt you for a destination. I usually just throw them in a c:\temp folder, pick the relevant ones, and then move the appropriate files into a development website I have on my IIS server.

COM -> Getting the caller context?

Hi there, Sorry I can't offer a solution to your problem--we have pretty much the same one. We need a reliable way to determine when a COM dll is called by someone outside of ASP context. In our case, we don't care where that is from, we just need to know it is outside of ASP. One thought was...

    Registering a .DLL

Just my experience, but you probably only need to restart IIS instead of a full reboot to release the hold on the DLL. After you're done a test run and you're ready to replace the DLL with a new one: 1. Start-->Run--> "iisreset" (or you can do it in two parts, "iisreset /stop" then "iisreset...

How to Open Crystal Report from asp page?

Try these on for size. Things may vary depending on what version (10, 9, 8.5) and edition (Enterprise, Embedded, RAS, etc.) of Crystal you intend to use. http://support.businessobjects.com/communityCS/FilesAndUpdates/ce10ee_asp_samples.exe.asp...
