Hello,

Info: CE & CR10 running on Win2k machines

I have numerous implementations of the above. One one particular Win2k machine, the RAS service (V. 10.0.0.533) keeps stopping. It does this randomly. I can't find anything in the Windows Event Viewer to give me any clues as to why this happens.

What can I look at to give me a clue as to why this is happening? Any advice?

Thank you.

Just the RAS service stops..?
What other CE-services are on that machine?
Are you using MSDE as the CMS database or something else?

Hello MJRBIM,

When I look in the Crystal Configuration Manager, the only things running are the Crystal Report Application Server and the World Wide Web Publishing Server. I also looked in the start/programs/admin tools/services and only see the RAS listed as far as Crystal related services go.

Yes, just the RAS Service stops. Once I restart it, it's fine (reports get served).

I'm not sure what you mean by the MSDE. This is installed with all defaults settings, so what ever the default DB.

I hope this helps answer your question.

Sp.

With RAS under v9, if two computers on the same domain tried to start up the RAS service using the same keycode, one of them would get shut down immediately.

So, depending on who boots up their PC first, or if they have to reboot during the day, you might see one service or the other stop.

Obviously, for legal reasons doing multiple installs and using the same keycode is wrong. However, in some shops where they've purchased all the appropriate software it may still happen if they attempt to simplify installation by using the same keycode on each workstation they do an install.

There is a License Manager tool available for v9 products that will help track that keycode information down at the BO website. I imagine there's a v10 tool there as well. Might be worth looking into.

caimoss,

Good post. This is installed on multiple machines (all legal of course). Maybe the wrong keycodes where entered. I'll have to check that.

Thanks!
