How to update BE 7.3 to 8.5

Save all you 7.3 serial numbers. Uninstall 7.3. Install 8.5 with the old option serial numbers and the new BE main serial number only and any new option serial numbers. It will take this even if it is an upgrade. At least it did for me.

How do I get the jobs to pull tapes from the media sets?

After a tape is drawn form scratch that tape is put into the media set that that job(s) uses. The trick is to set the right click properties of that media set so that the tapes overwrite period expires and the append period is long enough so tapes are available for the next set of jobs run.

BE 8.6 Services will not start

You should use the same account (not administrator) to login to the OS and Be. Re-enter the account name and password again even if you think it is correct...

Won't connect to another NT Server, even after I load the Agent

The remote backup account must be a domain administrative or local administrative account. It must be able to login as a service and the Remote Registry Service must be started on the remote computer.

Agent doesn't work properly. Any input appreciated!

Make sure the user rights policy in User Manager for Domains has the target server login account be able to Log On as a Service.

    Backup Exec Services won't start

Create separate administrative account such as "backup". Login with this account. Change all passwords on all BE related services to this account and password. Start the services. Always use this separate account for working with BE.
