Hi,
I have a problem that i hope one of you guys will be able to help me with.
I am building a comp for my young nephew out of some spares left over from some old machines i have. I have an old MSI 6168 ver2 board i would like to use for this. My problem is this, the board came out of a...

Hi,
I have just fitted a 32meg ATI Radeon to a machine i built up for a friend. i was impressed with its functions and it has a comprehensive driver pack.
It also has duel display support as standard & supports dvd playback.
but best of all was its price £60 + vat @ simply computers
This is...
check out the web site of the motherboard manufacture, if you dont know this write down the bios part no. that is displayed when you boot the machine. it will be on the first screen you see. then using a search engine such as webferret enter the number in the search field. this should return a...
if you are going to us a radeon card why not take advantage of its inbuilt duel display function. i have just built a system with one similar to the spec you need and it worked fine.
as a bonus it was also only £60+vat from simply computers here in the uk
well it seems to me that as you have already gone to the expence of a new hard drive, unless there is valuable data stored on the old drive reformat and partition the old one. the reformat should pick up any bad sectors and a scan disk afterwards should afferm this.
the alternitive is that...
just a thought, it may not work but.
why dont you get some fine wet 'n dry paper 1200grit and lay it on the desk. rub the mouse base across it. a little water on the paper will lubricate it.
i have just looked at the base of my logitec one and there are four plastic pads that make it glide...
have you tried removing the ram and fitting the dimms into different slots on the mobo?
ie, put the dimm that was in slot one into slot two and the dimm that was in slot two into slot one.
i dont know if this will work but,
this will only work one way around and it will depend on which machine has the cable modem.
assuming the machine that has the cable modem is the work machine and has the files you need to work on in the evening.
the computer with a cable modem is...
pebe,
it just occured to me, if the dvd drive can read dvd data dics, such as you get on the front of magazines but not movies. you may have the region codes set incorrectly for the dvd player software. be carefull if you play with these settings, as on most players you only get 4 adjustments...
pebe,
no dont remove windows, audio or video drivers. just your dvd software.
windows doesnt need a specific driver to operate the dvd player, it sees it using its standard cd drive driver. this is all it needs.
no to read dvd (data) dics you dont need any software, but to read dvd movies you...

to enable smooth playing of dvd discs DMA MUST BE ENABLED.
when dma is not enabled the signals are processed by the cpu, (they dont need to be). processing takes up a lot of resources and generally the cpu cant keep up with the demand on it, even a modern powerful...
most old pc's only recognise HDD up to 8gig. this doesn't mean that your 20gig drive cant be used.
i am affraid i havent personnel experiance with the HP but if you where to do some digging on HP's site.(www.hp.com)you will proberbly find a utility that you can install that will force windows to...
it might help if you made sure that 'dma' is enabled for both drives. this will allow the data to be transfered without using the cpu, (this creates a bottleneck).
also make sure that you have the highpiont drivers loaded for the mobo.
hope this helps

yes it can be arranged so that it opens in columns rather than scrolls. but i am afraid i am unsure of the command sequence, so i cannot advise further. i am however sure that one of the other users here will be able to help you.
