I have found that if I share a drive out with the same letter as the drive (e.g. C being shared as C$) then backupexec will not allow you to select it. However, when I change it to another letter (e.g. C being shared as H$) I can then select it in the job setup.

I'm having the same problem and I've replaced the drive, bought all new tapes and replaced the cable and still no luck. I'll get good backups randomly and my failed backups are all across the board. For example, (we backup approx. 52GB) one night I'll backup 12GB before the error the next...

Are you using Real Time Protection? If so turn it off to see if it may be conflicting with other apps you are running.
