how to shrink a jpg without losing quality

This appears to be an issue with not designing for the web.

    form calculation

You may have best success in answering your question if you ask it at the mindpalette forum or on the Adobe forums (adobeforums.com) where Nate Baldwin (mindpalette guy) hangs out.

    Resolution

If you stretch your 562x760 or 320 x 248 image to the full size, Photoshop is not going to add clarity. You need to start with a higher resolution image. 'GIGO' I don't think it has been made clear that the image isn't being stretched. Policekauk is using odd terminology to describe the...

    Resolution

How does this relate to Photoshop? What is your definition of 'perfect focus'? This is not a standard term when addressing resolution.

Looking for plugin to export AI files with fonts and images for PC

I cannot argue the logic of why Adobe offers font packaging in InDesign and not in Illustrator - - but Illustrator has had the option to embed or subset fonts in its file formats for years. There is no need to package individual font files.

    Apple Safari

Did you delete more than just Safari? It sounds like there was some aggressive cleaning. A system restore is certainly ideal.

Looking for plugin to export AI files with fonts and images for PC

Illustrator 'collects for output' by producing a single PDF file. Sending loose font files is typically a violation of their licensing.

    indesign cs3 vs. quark 6.5

InDesign only opens files as recent as QuarkXPress 4. If you currently have QuarkXPress 6.5, you can only export down to QuarkXPress 5 format. You'd still be a step away (unless you still have QuarkXPress 5 licenses). You can also look to Q2ID from markzware.com which will do the conversion...

    quark 7.1 vs. 6.5

The benefits of upgrading to QuarkXPress 7 is to match the capabilities of InDesign 2 which was release in 2002 and does drop shadows and transparency effects.

    G4 vs. Mac Pro

It may be faster and it may be slower. Keep in mind that whatever you are running on your G4 is running on code for the PPC processor. While the Intel Mac of today runs circles around a G4, it has to emulate the PPC environment through Rosetta. Sluggish emulation may offset your speed gains...

    G5 Dual Boot - Leopard/WinXP problem

There is a good portion of this thread that does not make sense. A G5 cannot be a dual boot computer with WinXP. Are you referring to using an Intel-based Mac or are you using Virtual PC on your G5? It would help to specify what you are really working with before anyone can offer meaningful...

    slow mac

Regarding confusing Mac PPC with Windows x86 (Pentium & AMD): I was referring to the 1.25 GHz PPC in particular. At the time of that processor, comparable Windows systems were also listed around the same speed. That was the closest the two processors were in marketed GHz. As time progressed...

    slow mac

How are you comparing a 1.25 GHz computer to a Windows PC? That Mac is old and would compare to a 1.25 GHz Windows computer of that time. Depending on your version of Photoshop and the workload that you expect to do, it may work fine or it may be slow. Yes, Macs can get malware. They don't...

    Apple Safari

re: moving apps from their default locations and where to look... When you mentioned that iTunes was misreporting update capability, I assumed that you had moved apps or installation log files that Software Update uses to determine what to update. Having re-read the note about 10.4.9 also...

Opening Password-Protected (Print Restricted) PDFs in PS

Adobe PDF printer checks for security settings. Try another virtual printer like one powered with Ghostscript.

Opening Password-Protected (Print Restricted) PDFs in PS

If you had Acrobat, you could combine the PDF files. Some printers allow you to drag a file right on to their icon to start printing. Perhaps once you have the virtual printer set up, all you would need to do is drag a handful of your PDF files onto the printer icon.
