How do you discover multiple tapes

If you browse to Libraries, and then right click on the Tape Library there should be a Discover Media menu option. Not sure if that is what you need though, but might be worth a shot.

System State Failed to Create VSS Snapshot

The reason I suggested the separation of the System State from Default Subclient is so that when you run the System State backup, you will be able to view the logs files once it errors out. There will usually be something within the logs that will help you pin point the cause of the problems...

System State Failed to Create VSS Snapshot

I recommend creating an additonal Subclient, and then separating the System State Backup from the Default Subclient. That way you can run the System State backup independantly of the default content, which will make the logs files much easier to go through. If you are able to do this, and...

    System State Restore

A couple of quick questions: Is it possible to roll-back the firmware? Is there any information on the blue screen that you could supply so that we can try to pin point it's cause. Also, I wonder if you would be better off doing the full restore onto a base installation of the operating...

    Aux Copy Question

When you create a new Selective Copy, the default Selective Copy options are set to automatically select the first Full Backup of the Week, with the week starting on Friday. All that is really left to do is set the required retention and select the required clients on the Associations tab. What...

Modified file possibly not backed up

In situations like this, I've often found that the issue lies with the user who has managed to inadvertantly save the document somewhere else (usally locally) and has been working on it and saving there ever since. When the document disappears out of the recent documents list, the user will...

'Import' first full backup from other media

Speaking from experience, I wouldn't recommend anyone rely soley on Synthetic Fulls. A few months ago, I had to do a restore of my own data from a Synthetic Full. Everything seemed fine however, I was missing a fair chunk of old data. I went through roughly 6 months of Sythentic Fulls just to...

Modified file possibly not backed up

Sorry, got confused on one of the sentances, are you saying that you have restored the file from the backup following the last modified date? If so - wouldn't you have to restore the file from the backup prior to the modified date?

    Help to Reconstruct SIDB

Have you spoken with support? I vaguely recall having a similar issue with the SIDB corrupting, however, it ended up being a patch or some other simple fix.

    Restoring specific registry key

I don't think there has ever been any way to restore specific keys from a System State backup has there? There is a work around, as long as the data you require is in HKU or HKLM, which will allow you to get specific keys by restoring the hives to an out of place location, and opening the hive...

    backup non-domain server

Quick question, do you specify both host names and IP addresses in your FWHosts and FWPeers files?

    Migration question

You can have both agents installed, however there is more to take into consideration other than just operating ports. If you are planning on having both products running, you need to be aware how each one selects data for backup operations.

Loss of control process ExTiMBStartBackup.exe error

Right click on the failing job and select View Logs, alternatively right click on the Mailbox Agent within the Client, select View and then Backup History. At the filter dialog, press OK. You will now have a list of jobs, right click on a failed job, and select View Logs. Most of the contents...

Force Job to use a apecific Tape

Assuming that you're using Schedule Policies to schedule your jobs - is it possible the jobs that aren't getting placed on the appendable media are part of another Schedule Policy which also has "Start New Media" checked? If so, for future backups, you may need to uncheck "Start New Media".

Force Job to use a apecific Tape

I note that you have said that the jobs were in the same schedule, but are they also in the same Storage Policy? Short of that, there are a few things that stop jobs writing to appendable media. First of all it is worth checking the Media tab on the Library Properties sheet. On this tab both...

Exchange backups - ISA server - Seperate backup network

The IPsToBind method is what I would have suggested as well, and it should mean that you don't have to punch holes through ISA. If you have any problems getting it working, let me kow.

Exchange backups - ISA server - Seperate backup network

I'm kind of lost. Are you saying that you have 5 phyisical servers each with 2 NICs, one bound to the exchange network, the other bound to the backup network, however, the virtual nodes can not see the backup network?

    Streams/Readers/Multiplexing - Balancing Act?!

I've been thinking about this a little, and I'm not sure I see how it is beneficial having your file server setup with additional readers and multiplexing when it's going straight to tape. From what you have explained of your environment, I would have thought that by having multpile readers...

    Streams/Readers/Multiplexing - Balancing Act?!

Are you backing up Databases at the same time? Apparently there can be performance issues when multiplexing Filesystem and Database jobs.

    Streams/Readers/Multiplexing - Balancing Act?!

You have noted that you have a Multiplexing Factor of 4, is this indicative of the media agent also backing other clients and subclients? If it is, are these backups occuring at the same time as the File Server backups?
