Thanks Dave, I will look into that... considering I just sunk $ 22k into a new Intel Modular server and a bunch of storage, if the swing kit is reasonably priced it sounds like the right way to go.
Love this Modular Server by the way... if anyone wants feedback on it...
I have several users that are VPNing into our network and I would like to be able to assign them each a specific IP address for support and remote access purposes.
Could someone give me a brief how-to please and thank you?
Yes, my plan is to image it... but it is going to new hardware and in my experience, moving SBS is never pretty... so I am trying to have a fallback option while I get the new server up and running.
You can us My Documents redirection to keep the users My Documents folders on the server. Then just have your backup system backup whatever folder you keep them in.
The idea is to eliminate the constant back and forth copying of the My Documents folder that occurs if you just turn on Roaming...
Hi guys... love this site and all the helpful folks!
I am preparing to (shudder) move my SBS 2003 to new hardware and so I have set up a second Domain Controller (2003) to hopefully allow people to login and access network resource while the SBS server is down.
I have used DCPromo to upgrade...
Haha... actually it's just that I expected to see a little CMD window at login... like what happends when the user profile script runs... but I guess it executes them quietly in the background, with no open window somehow, when you do it in GP.
No. The scripts aren't even starting... it's not even getting to the point where that would be an issue.
For example, if I wrote a batch file that simply said:
******
cls
echo off
echo hello, this batch file is executing
pause
******
it would not execute.
What I am trying to do is create some Group Policy objects that will force certain batch files to execute at logon and/or logoff.
Here is what I have done:
1. Created a security group with the users I want to run the script.
2. Created a GP Object and set it to only apply to that security...
1DMF - Regarding slowness... have you excluded and/or used Document Redirection for your My Documents folder?
The only two things we find slow down roaming profiles is the fact that left on default settings, it copies My Documents back and forth between the client/server... and when users have...
Thank you... very strange... about half the clients have now updated properly to the profiles folder... some of them took several days and logon/logoff cycles to move... while others moved right away... and some still haven't moved.
I am baffled... the rights seem ok (thanks 1DMF) and there is...
Ahh! That's the key bit of information I am missing. I thought making the server a certificate authority would stop the "There is a problem with this website's certificate.... blah blah blah" error message.
So you are saying that a certificate from GoDaddy will work and the error will go...
As a follow up... the workstation in question had no errors that I could find in any of the logs, relative to creating the profile... it just didn't work.
Thanks again SkreeM... I did initially set it up with ICW... but no matter how many times I do, I always get the certificate warnings when connecting to OWA... so I was trying to manually do it.
The process basically involved installing Certificate Services, and then creating and attaching a...
Thanks for the fast response!
So ok, I can go ahead and robocopy all the profiles over... and change the permissions.
The new folders basically show System, Administrator and the %username% as having full control. Should the Owner be the Username? Or System or Administrator?
The one I had...
I am moving my roaming profiles from one RAID array to another, on a different server. At the same time I am using GP to add Admin access to the profiles when they are created.
What I did was change the profile path on all the users (I have about 65) thinking that when they logged in, it would...
Hi... new to the forum... thanks in advance for any help provided!
Ok.. I followed some Microsoft instructions to make my SBS 2003 Server a Cerificate Authority, and create a certificate for use with OWA. Then added that to the Default Web Site... and enabled SSL.
It didn't work... so I...
