    Passed 70-680

This is my next one. I keep thinking it's going to be a tough one since it seems more like 70-270 XP, which was more enterprise stuff. A+ Network+ Security+ MCP/XP Network Systems Admin - Technical Diploma

Recenlt retired Army guy needs IT advice on new career path

Old post, but some useful info. Military personnel have access to online course material for all CompTIA, Microsoft and CISCO certifications. This costs civilians roughly $1000 a year to subscribe to. Along with Books 24x7 that has online books of ones you would normally pay $30-$60 for. If...

    Soon 2 b testing Win7... Have some ?'s

No domain issues with state government here. Pretty sure all our servers are 2003 or newer though. When you login though, it doesn't display the domain. It displays COMPUTERNAME\user Weird, but I am still on the domain.

    w7 pro slow boot

Laptops depreciate 3x as fast as desktops and have a higher rate of hardware failure. They're only great investments for those who actually have to use them every single day.

Problem installing Win 7 in a really nice Rig...

It should actually display your current partitions. it doesn't take paid software to do a format for an operating system. The Win7 job does just fine.

Using Two Drives: 1 for Vista and 1 for Win 7

No office should have anything less than Professional if legacy apps are important to you. XP Mode works pretty well. VirtualBox or VMWARE is still needed by IT pros though.

Using Two Drives: 1 for Vista and 1 for Win 7

Why in the hell would you keep Vista?

    3GB RAM Limit

    3 > 4 isn't worth it. 2 > 4 is especially considering how cheap memory is.

How to pull numbers that are the same

NEWB ALERT! Okay, so we run Sybase Anwhere 8 here along with InfoMaker 6. I have a database of doctors and want to run a query to check out if any have the same license number as another. What is a SQL command that would detect duplicate numbers? I am learning this as I go. Thanks.

    Exam difficulty: Your opinions

70-270 *** My first Microsoft exam (795). Way harder than my CompTIA A+ was of course. It's a tough one even if you've worked on XP for years as most of the questions are server or enterprise related. I also have had limited exposure to Server 2000/2003. Studied and did practice tests for 4.5...

Hmmm VirtualBox eh? I'll have to look into this. Would save me a lot of money having to buy them their own Windows laptops and endure their whining. =) ---------- IT Admin Iowa Board of Medicine

ADVISE ON GOOD ANTI VIROUS/ANTI SPAM PROGRAM

I use NOD32, Tomato Firmware on my Linksys router and the Windows firewall. That's it. No antispam software. If you're a badboy or other people using your computer are...then maybe you need it. I haven't been struck by a virus ever and only by spyware in the old days when before I knew better...

Installer or Extracter for both PC/MAC

There is an agreement enclosed with each laptop concerning it's uses. Yes, they are entrusted to keep the data within the laptop itself. SecureDoc is a solution offered and recommended by the state. So I am limited there. It's a pain in the butt, but it is good. These PDFs add upt to 2GB...

Installer or Extracter for both PC/MAC

As of now, the data is suppose to only be on the computers in the office (which are "secured" via the doors and login names on the computers themselves.) Laptops that utilize this data have to be encrypted with SecureDoc from WinMagic. It digs deep encrypting sector by sector of the hard drive...
