Hello. Don't know why you can't see sql and exchange databases through the client agent in your actual configuration. In my configuration, i haven't installed the client agents on these machines. (so i can not check if i can see the databases only with sp3 installed)

Think that your backup has some problems with the permissions.
Take a look at your scheduled tasks, which account are you using for your backupjob?? (must have backup-operators rights)
