Have MCP cert with no JOB... what are my options.

Andrew, I'm surprised you have not had any offers of summer work but it depends on your local area - I guess. Have you tried voluntary organisations/charities ? In my experience they are always keen to help. As for what to do if you can't find work - why not offer to design web pages, learn...

How i can save domain Group Policy?

Yup it's a pain! You need a 3rd party tool such as Fazam 2000 to backup/restore policies. Try the eval version from here - http://www.fullarmor.com/solutions/group/ Hope this helps

All company cant see Win2k server in Network Neighbourhood

Chris, Uh you need some form of netbios name resolution to use network neighbourhood. Therefore either resolve by broadcast or WINS - you must be using broadcasts at the moment which is not very efficient. Check the node type on your clients to see how they are resolving names - just run...

    TCP/IP Loopback

Laptop is on Win2000 now although still had same problem with 98. I think the problem is to do with the PC - the very fact that it cannot ping it's loopback address or it's own IP suggests something wrong with TCP/IP stack - I think. It can ping other servers on my network though. I'm looking...

    TCP/IP Loopback

Glen, Yes checked this and they're ok - but I get my problem with pinging IP addresses as well as names. Thanks for the suggestion though :-)

Security Consulting for the small business (long question)

I also don't know about this company but looked at their site. Nothing particularly new here. The security toolkit which can check your servers/pcs are available in many different formats -a lot free such as Nessus mentioned above. They are just effectively port scanners and check which ports...

    TCP/IP Loopback

Hi Guys, Hopefully someone can give me some clues on this problem. Small home net lab - Three servers, One PC (2000 Prof), ADSL connection through a ADSL router (10mb)and a laptop connected through a wireless card and Access point. Now my problem - I cannot ping PC1 from the laptop. The link...

    stuck in a career

gunthnp: yes if he want's to go that way - sure. Mind you 5 years is not that long if you're interested in the technology - if you become an expert in a particular field that avenue can open up anyway. I've had about 14 years in IT and don't feel the need to go into management - I'm just not...

    stuck in a career

Cid1 I guess this is a common problem. If I was you I would decide what specific area you want to branch into. Don't get too hung up on certs and qualifications initially after all you've got industry experience already. Instead decide what you want to do and take specific courses, read...

Shackdaddy, Haha !!! Thanks - this sounds very possible - I'll check it out ! Cheers welshguy

    Question on FTP

Thanks for the reply But this is the confusing part - I realise how passive and active mode work as you say. But it's in passive mode that the client is making the direct connaction out on port 21 - under active mode the request goes out through the proxy under http. It's this behaviour under...

    Question on FTP

Guys, I have a query with FTP access from IE so hoping someone might have hit this. Basically it's regarding how FTP access works from within IE. There is a setting within IE/Advanced options called enable folder view for FTP - now according to MS In q309816...

Unable to ping our Win2k server - but, all users can browse thru it

Firewall/router blocking ICMP echo requests most probably. Must have open ports 80 and 25,110 for web and mail though. Good practice really :-) - means you're less likely to get port scanned. Cheers

    IP addresses stolen?

Unfortunately no 2 is possible - you may still be able to track back through the headers unless they're using an open smtp relay somewhere as well !! Have a look at this http://www.8th-wonder.net/ Program is called Phasma if you want to see how easy it is :-(.

Group Policy not being applied to Groups

Yeah sorry just reread your configuration. The problem is with your design - it's fine to use security groups to filter GPOs (in fact best practice as long as you remove auth users). The problem here is that you need the GPO applied at the OU level which contains the user/computer objects...

    Applying group policy to groups

Agree about the DNS bit but definately not the authenticated users bit. By the way your set up is perfectly valid and is similar to many I've seen and set up. Disable read and apply for authenticated users and stick with your assignments by group - this method is advised by MS. I'm sitting...

Group Policy not being applied to Groups

Very first thing is check DNS. Check DNS server ok and the client has valid entry for DNS. GPOs won't be applied if this isn't correct. It's nearly always the problem first time round. :-) Hope this helps.

Have MCP cert with no JOB... what are my options.

" Nice guys finish last " Sad but true. Still an MCP is better than nothing - but only just in today's market. I don't think that alone would get much of a job, they've just been too devalued. I would guess that something like a CNE or CCNA would be a better target for a...
