I am conducting a survey for a component of a case study for my computer class. We have to form a small company, develop a software and market it. I chose to make an encrpytion software which will use the AES Rijndael encryption algorithm, and I need some information and opinions from other people which related computer experience.

Thanks for taking the time to fill it out...

General Questions

1. Do you prefer using a wizard interface or normal interface in a program?

- wizard
- normal

2. Do you have anything against having programs run in the system tray for the sole purpose of having quick access to them?

- yes
- no

3. In your opinion, would the free software market prevail over the commericial market?

- it will
- it might
- not at all

Encryption Specific Questions

1. Do you have documents and files which you feel are important and private?

- yes
- no (skip to question #5)

2. Are you concerned about the security of these files?

- yes
- no

3. Has the security of any of these files ever been comprimised?

- yes
- no

4. Would you consider using encryption software to protect these files?

- yes
- no

5. Assuming you know about encryption strengths, how strong should a home and small business targetted encrpytion system be?

- 56 bits
- 128 bits
- 256 bits
- more than 256 bits

Nice.
I will answer shortly to your questions.
1. It's nice to have wizards. But always there should be the possibilty to not use it.
2. Same answer. Nice to have it, but let the possibilty to hide it.
3. No. Freeware software does not offer to customers the safeness. A customer wil prefere a software that has a company behind ( and maybe a good, well known company). Otherwise they shoiuld add this to their business risk.
The rest, the answer is that is nice to have such a tool, as long that it doesn't change too much the way the users are working daily.
Again nice idea for a computer class.

General Questions

1. - normal

2. - yes

3. - it might (This one is a loaded question. Some FreeWare is great and some is horrible. The same can be said about commercial software. You would have to compare them side by side and include such items as support.)

Encryption Specific Questions

1. - yes

2. - yes

3. - no

4. - yes

5. - more than 256 bits (What can I say? I'm paranoid  ) James P. Cottingham

I have done so much with so little
for so long that I am now qualified
to do anything with nothing.

1. wizard
2. no
3. it might - but probably not in encryption market

Encryption Specific Questions
1. yes
2. yes
3. no
4. yes
5. more than 256 bits but would depend on situation - in general obvioulsy the higher the better. Depending on balance between system performance and encryption strength

Wish I'd had classes like this when I was at school/college
:-(
Best of luck

General:
1. Typically, the normal interface
2. Yes. I don't like programs running in the system tray... they needlessly eat up resources. If I need a program, I'm capable of using 2 mouse clicks to get there.
3. Freeware will not overtake commercial software because people feel more safe having software from a company that can support it and back it up.

Encryption:
1. Yes
2. Yes
3. No
4. Yes. I currently use PGP
5. More than 256 bits

Good luck
