    Firewall: "msmsgs"

Thx Linney, I'll check those links out.

    Firewall: "msmsgs"

I mean that under the Firewall Settings those ports & protocols show up in there automatically and was just wondering why they would show up there without my doing.

    Firewall: "msmsgs"

In the settings for the firewall, there are a few msmsgs inserts that keep appearing and automatically give check-marks beside them so that Internet users can access. I notice this happens when I go into Outlook Express or MSN Messenger and don't know if this is normal or suspicious.(ie...

    Why No Display Setting Tabs

It's the Upgrade and it's the retail version. This only happened when I installed SP1 though and I have the updated Detonator 4 drivers for my 3D Prophet II Ti. It is really odd. I switched between a couple drivers and that still didn't make a difference (for nVidia and for Hercules). What...

    Why No Display Setting Tabs

All of my display drivers are correct and not corrupt. I'm running the 3D Prophet II Ti and I'm sure it has nothing to do with those drivers.

    Why No Display Setting Tabs

This happened when I installed SP1 for XP Home Edition. If I move the mouse around at the top, it does actually go into each tab's properties (as if the tabs were there) and when I change something in the properties and push Apply - it works but then if I press Ok - it give me a Address error...

Internet Explorer using wrong program to play media link

May, In Real-Player, go to the Options and deselect the option to run *.RAM files as the default (most likely unchecking a box; I'm not sure exactly within the program because I haven't used it in awhile). When this happens, it will go to the next available application to run that file type...

Slow boot up with XP home

I ran into this problem before. It was caused by a beta service pack that wasn't from the Microsoft site and a few other faulty patches that weren't downloaded correctly and slightly corrupt. Be sure you download authentic service releases (from the Microsoft web site). You don't know who has...

    Windows Update

Yamafopa, I'm not exactly sure why that works the way it does. I guess the 'detecting of the LAN settings' clash with the AutoDownload somehow, preventing it to proceed. Odd but true.

    Windows Update

The absolute solution: - in IE, go to Tools > Internet Options > Connections (tab) > LAN Settings > uncheck Automatically Detect Settings - *recommended* close IE - run Windows Update again or access it through IE again [medal]

    xp and internet disconnect

If you're on a network with a hub, the Ericcson cable modem seems to cut out like that for no reason. On the other hand - Samsung modems are extremely reliable with a network. I just thought I'd tell you whether Mulga's solution helped or not. :-)

Thanks for your help pbxman & inanf

    2+ computers using W2K Professional w/out W2K Server

Thanks ianf. Since the only administrators there would be the two computers, how would I set up both W2K Professional computers to be both administrators (since there isn't a W2K Server anywhere)? Realistically, any computer that joins the network would be an administrator without a real...

    2+ computers using W2K Professional w/out W2K Server

I currently have a home LAN with Windows 98 on two computers. There is cable internet joined to the HUB and both computers are connected (Star Topology). I was thinking about possibly getting Windows 2000 Professional Upgrade edition. I don't want to get a server; I just would like to see my...
