obviously your errors are coming from the restoration, the best way to get clean is to demote and promote ... but that would require getting all the FSMO rolls off -- chances are, you're going to have issues trying to demote ...

ok ... i did all kinds of stops, starts, restarts on the DFS service and i'm getting the 1030 and 1058 error everytime i run gpupdate /force
so apparently, my issue has nothing to do with DFS like yours
can anyone tell me what the harm is in setting the default domain policy to the settings in...

at 9:03 i did the default domain controller policy update, which stopped the 1030 and 1058 errors
at 10:30 they started again, every 5 minutes
at 12:19 i restarted the DFS service, ran gpupdate /force, and logged...
i have a windows 2003 domain with 2 dc's (dc00 and dc01). dc00 contains all the fsmo roles and dc01 is a global catalogue as well as dc00.
every 5 minutes on dc00 i get a 1030 and 1058 Userenv error as stated in microsoft's article...
how do you remove old workgroups from the browser?
for some strange reason, 40 new domains/workgroups were created last night -- I'm trying to get to the bottom of it, but how can i at least get rid of them for now?

the log file was gone so no transactions could be committed --
we ended up using isinteg utility
isinteg -pri -fix -test alltests
it removed the emails that were locked --

open your norton AV and expand the configure tree. select "file system realtime protection" .. in the options portion, check the "exclude selected files and folder" and then browse to exclude the logs folders --
same thing to us friday afternoon. here are the steps i took to get the IS back up -- but i do have some issues i'll post after --
step 1: eseutil /p /ispriv
step 2: delete all log files, .chk and temp.edb
step 2: isinteg -pri -fix -test alltests
step 4: isinteg -patch
step 5: start the IS...
