    FORGOT LOCAL ADMIN PASSWORD !!!

You'll need to find NTFSDOS (Can't remember where to get it) 1 - Boot the machine with NTFSDOS. 2 - Rename logon.scr to logon.old 3 - Copy cmd.exe to logon.scr 4 - Wait 15-20 mins until the standard NT logon.scr kicks in, at this point it will launch cmd.exe due to 3 above. 5 - Run musrmgr.exe...

How to manage exchange from my desktop?

you can install exchange administrator (off exchange cd) on your workstation - make sure you are logged into a domain that is either your exchange domain or trusted to your exchange domain. Seán. cichlid000@hotmail.com

    Windows NT 4.0 Time Server

Ah - you've got me there - we have tons of various NT Servers around our network and I can set my time to any one of them using net time - it has never reported 'not a time server' and as far as i can tell they don't run something like TIMESERV. I'll have a think and let you know.

    Remotely Manage the Server

Get the user manager and server manager executables - They are in WINNT\SYSTEM32 on your server (srvmgr.exe and usrmgr.exe) For eventvwr just run EVENTVWR xxxxx (x=machine name or ip address) Also a good idea to get NT Resource Kit - it has loads of useful things. rclient is also handy if you...

you could use net time \\xxxxxxx /set /y in the logon scripts to set the time. replace the x's with the name of the server or its ip address.

    Disappearing network connections

This does sound like a different issue. Don't worry about the registry setting - tried it - makes no difference - also tried tweaking hardware settings on the NIC and using /PERSISTENT etc... Your problem sounds a bit more 'in yer face' - at first I would have the network checked - we have had...

    Disappearing network connections

Unfortunately this sounds like a common problem with Win2K. (I myself have posted it here) I have experienced this on several domains (and my own machine) and sometimes makes using Access databases on a shared drive impossible to use. It looks as though Win2K downgrades the connection - when I...

    Exchange Brick Level Backup???

I'm not sure about the answer to your question - we don't use the brick level backup - it is rumoured to take 20 minutes per mailbox ( i hope i am wrong ). I would stick to just backing up the entire Exchange DB, using it as a backup for the server rather than individual mailboxes - we tell...

New Problem with E-mail from Access

I've only ever used Outlook to send mails with access. These are used on workstations that are shared but each user has a outlook profile of their own - the sendobject either uses outlook if its open with that user or prompts for profile and login. What are you using to create / send the mails...

    Win2K unknown/undocumented "Feature"

Tried the registry key before - unsuccessful I'm afraid. I think this is just something that Windows 2000 does although I'm hoping there is some form of work around for it. Cheers. Seán. cichlid000@hotmail.com

    Win2K unknown/undocumented "Feature"

From my own investigation I have found that it is known by microsoft - no one is sure if they are working on a fix though. It appears to be a win2k pro feature - i guess no one tried it in the real world. I have tried contact microsoft but have still not had any replies, even after a couple of...

    Win2K unknown/undocumented "Feature"

I had to double check this wasn't posted before - so far I can't tell so here goes - this is a problem I have seen on various (our internal) systems and have noticed that others may be experiencing difficulties as well. Win2K Pro machine with various network drives mapped to both NT4 machines...

    Access 97 and Win2000

Top tip for using any MS Access DB on Win2000 machines. If your database is stored on a server/mapped drive somewhere you may experience problems with Windows 2000 degrading the connection after a period of time. This is not a problem with Access but Windows 2000 - It will cause errors in access...

    Multiple E-Mail Attachments??

I havent tried this with access but I've used it for similiar purposes, ie sending multiples in one go. Go to http://www.winzip.com/other.htm and download the command line support add in for windows. You'll need a registered version of winzip though. Add a line in your code after you have...

Unable to log on because the Domain "computername" is not available.

If the NT 4 machines can ping the PDC try removing them and re-adding them to the domain.

Unable to log on because the Domain "computername" is not available.

Make sure you can ping a domain controller for the domain you want to log onto after you have been assigned an IP address. I wouldnt advise using DHCP for the domain controllers - keep them static.

    Ghost

Chances are I'm asking this in the wrong place but I can't seem to find anywhere even close. Here's my problem - I have an NT4 Server running IIS and SQL. It has various security updates / patches and config tweaks applied to it that if it died it would take more than a day to rebuild so, I have...

    Outlook 2000 SR1 and attachments

Top Tip - do not password protect the zip files - if the exchange server is using groupshield it will strip the attachment off and quarintine it as it can't scan the file as it is encrypted.
