    Toshiba Satellite freezes up

Hello all, My Toshiba Satellite 1805-S203 notebook at work has an annoying problem; if I walk away from it for awhile, it goes into standby, then the LCD shuts off to conserve power. Sometimes when I come back to work on it again, it becomes unresponsive to keystrokes and the screens slowly...

    Start up problems

I suspect it may either be a bad power supply or a bad bus on the mobo. Do you see anything on the display?? You mentioned you're getting LED lights on the CD drives. If the display starts detecting drives and memory, your BIOS should be fine. I agree w/rockerfellerz. Power supply's a...

    What networking cable to get

Cat5 or Cat5e will suffice for the connecting your router to your PC. The main difference between 5 and 5e is the maximum transmission speed of Cat5 is 100 Mbps, while Cat5e is 1 Gbps. Cat6 is used for Gigabit Ethernet, but unless your router is capable of transmitting that fast, you won't...

    not a valid office add-in

mccall you rock! Although the KB article listed a different key from what I had, deleting it worked like a champ. Hopefully itsgoodtobeking will check his thread so he can get back on track as well. Many thanks

Internal ZIP works, CD-ROM doesn't on WinNT PC

Well I finally got a chance to try my luck with the jumpers. Both were on CS so I put the CD on MA & the ZIP on SL. That was all it was! Glad to find out it was something simple. Thanks to Cindy1 & mccall. BTW, do you have any input on these two threads? thread68-761331 thread68-754045...

Sony Vaio keeps trying to update product drivers

Cleaned up startup and ran msconfig. There was an entry in the startup that I removed, but the real culprit was an entry in Device Manager. Under disk drives was my HDD and my printer! Clearly something got mixed up when my sister plugged in her Flash drive. Thanks koala15 & micker377. Case...

Hp priner is playing silly buggers

I've seen an earlier post where cleaning the rollers and taking a small file or something to them to score the surface (effectively giving them "grips") alleviates the worn-out roller problem, but having never tried it myself I don't know if it will work.

    Remote Flat Panels

I've seen systems that utilize a mainframe/dummy terminal topology w/CAT5 as the video feed to the dummy terminals. So it's feasible, but not too sure how to implement this system in other ways

Sony Vaio keeps trying to update product drivers

Hi all, Got a Vaio laptop (2 yrs) that's running Win2K. Periodically a window pops up stating that it's going to update product drivers. If left unchecked, it reveals that it's installing "HP Photo & Imaging 1.0 - HP PSC - HP OfficeJet". This didn't occur 'til my sister plugged in...

Internal ZIP works, CD-ROM doesn't on WinNT PC

Hi all, Got an older PC running Winnt that I decided to add an internal ZIP 100MB b/c it was laying around. I have it attached to the same IDE cable as my CD-ROM (they're on secondary IDE ctrlr). Winnt recognizes the ZIP, my FDD, and my HDD (2 partitions), but it doesn't see my CDROM at all...

Adding Hardware as a Power User

The following link has a detailed answer for you, but unfortunately the short answer is no. Power users in Win2K do not have the same rights as in WinNT. http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/apcompat/apcompat/check_for_correct_user_privileges.asp

    What's wrong with my PC

For unneccessary processes you can run msconfig or try downloading EnditAll, a program that looks a lot like Task Manager but can kill just about any processes you want. Use with caution, though

More is better when it comes to PSU wattage. Shouldn't be a problem finding one at a reasonable price.

weird program run at every startup and uses at least 9X% cpu usage

If you ever find apps running that bog your system down again, look for a program called EnditAll. Lot like Task Manager, but can effectively end any/all processes you deem unneccessary.
