Thanks for the respose Duane, but the problem wasn't related to any one database, but all of them - I've had our IT department reinstall Access on my machine to no avail.
However, I have now, after a bit more investigation, finally fixed this frustrating issue - what I'd done (sometime before...
I'm running Access 2007, and have been without issue for a couple of years. Over the last few days I've been experiencing a problem with writing queries which seems to be universal to any Access database I'm using - any query I write with a Function in the QBE grid causes an error: "The...
Hi
I may have posted this in the wrong forum, possibly a VB forum would be more appropriate, but please bear with me.
We use access databases to produce ad-hoc reporting information, and as time goes by, the number of databases tend to multiply, meaning that it becomes difficult to find queries...
Thanks Zameer, you've pointed me in the right direction, that works fine. Ufortunately all the users come up as 'Admin', and I was hoping to get the value of the environ('username') variable, but I suspect this can only be resolved via our network/user configuration.

Thanks Orna, I've experimented with the login table, but can only get it to work where users login directly into the database; however, the databases I'm updating are downloads from our HR system, and used as a back-end for numerous other databases, which I don't have administrative control over...
I have a VBA procedure which updates several back-end Access databases and then compacts them remotely; however this will only work if I have exclusive access to each of the back-end databases, and since they are used quite heavily it's hard to find time in the working day when this is the case...
We have a series of databases which we've been using successfully for a few years now, all in Access2003, which has been converted from 97 a year or two ago now. All of a sudden they've all been failing on the following bit of code:
Dim DB1 As DAO.Database
Dim RS1 As DAO.Recordset
Dim SD...
Thanks Martin - power supply it was, I was suprised to be honest how easy it was to replace (is it just me or does everyone have dead PCs around the house for cannibalisation?)

"42??? We're going to get lynched!
My PC's been on the blink for a while - I should have got it fixed but was always going to get round to it another time - it would simply power down out of the blue, and then not start up again until it had had a good 12 hours' rest - if I tried to fire it up again before that the light on the...
Thanks felixc, I'll try that - I had a look in the BIOS last night and found the peripherals section but wasn't sure exactly what to do with it. Yes I'm pretty sure the 'found new hardware' wizard comes up every time. I'll let you know how I get on - cheers

Sorry for the elapsed time to respond...
Thanks felixc, I'm using the parallel port for a printer - I think this is the same as the LPT port? Not sure how I know if I'm using the COM port, how can I tell?
I reinstalled the driver but get the same issue. How do I resolve the IRQ conflict -...
Just installed a Via Solution USB 2.0 PCI Host Card and also replaced the CDRom with a burner, rebooted and the Found New Hardware Wizard starts, looking for drivers for a)Real Time Clock and b)PCI card. B) I can understand, but why is it looking (and failing to find) a driver for the Real Time...

A brief couple of quick thoughts - don't know much about Access core security, never used it and am lead to understand it's quite hard to get right, but I'm sure there's a FAQ on this site regarding it somewhere.
One possibility is to give your boss one front-end and your colleagues...
Aha! Eureka, thanks longhair, hadn't considered that the database permissions weren't inherited from the folder (doh!). At least I can console myself that I checked there were no lock files and tries a repair before I posted!
Many thanks, (fingers crossed)!

I've created an Access 97 database on a separate server for users, which is populated on a weekly basis from a BE database which has links to the 'FE' tables and uses queries to delete the tables and then repopulate them using append queries, so to all intents and purposes the database should...
Postscript: well I bit the bullet and installed the SuperDAT file and it seems to have updated the engine and virus definitions, so I'm safe(-ish) for the moment, but given Pechenegs' remark about McAfee being a resource-hog and the PC I use for internet access not being the most powerful...

The version of McAfee AntiVirus engine I'm using is 7.03.6000, which according to McAfee's site is apparently no longer supported. A new definition file 4768dat.exe is available for download from McAfee's site, which presumably won't work with the version of Scan Engine I'm...
Diogenes, given your last remark about the McAfee forum this may not be the appropriate place to continue this thread, but the version of McAfee AntiVirus engine I'm using is 7.03.6000, which according to McAfee's site is apparently no longer supported, and the URL you posted to definition file...
