Thanks for the link. While going through the proceedure mentioned on that page I noticed that REGEDIT was doing the same thing. It would open for a second then instantly close. Immediately after that I did an online virus scan and found BAGLE.M. Hope this helps if anyone one else has been...
Greetings. I have a W2k Pro machine that runs a dos based application off of a network drive. Recently when attempting to run the application a black command prompt displays breifly then disappears. I notice the same thing happens when i try to run command.com from the start menu. This is the...
Weird problem I'm having with my XP box at the office. I leave my computer on during the week, shut it down over the weekend. But some mornings when I come in the programs in the quicklaunch bar disappear. When I go to the taskbar options Quick Launch still has a check next to it, and the only...
Greetings,
I've recently came across a problem with a machine running Windows XP. The computer is part of a 2 computer workgroup and using file and print sharing. The users access documents on each others computers over the network by clicking on "my network places" and selecting the...
Hey, just an update. I went onsite, the machine was not getting an IP address but my laptop did. Took the bad unit to my work bench and hooked it up and it worked fine got an IP from my DHCP server, connected to the internet. MAC address was still 00-00-00-00-00-00 but after updating drivers the...
Buddy of mine is having a problem connecting to the internet using high-speed cable connection. I ran some tests with him over the phone, he's got an IP of 169.294.x.x (apipa) and he can ping 127.0.0.1 fine. So I concluded the problem resided with the ISP. However, he already had contacted them...
I experienced a similar problem when connecting 2 xp pro boxes together via hub. I ended up having to uninstall/reinstall file and print sharing on one of the boxes. I cannot recall 100% if the machines could ping each other or not.
Well, I think I found the problem. I was able to get access to another 740 printer so I swapped all the parts I could think of. Print quality improved greatly when I replaced the Black Toner. Now the end user of this printer claims to have replaced the toner in the unit a couple of times. When I...
Well the blotching is definately happening before it reaches the fuser so we can eliminate that. I would like to think the toner cartridges are ok, since they have been replaced twice since this started happening. The imaging unit was replaced as well. I'm still at it, cleaned off all the...
Thanks for the quick reply!
I located the tabs you mentioned. They were covered in toner. Cleaned em up and bent the tabs outward. Removed the imaging unit so I could get a better look at the paper feeder reaching the contacts, put it back in and printed out a couple test pages. The print outs...
Hello garion911,
I am experiencing a similar problem with a Tektronix 740 printer. If possible can you please explain what you did in more detail? I've been struggling with this thing for a month! Thanks
Thanks for the reply. I did end up replacing the fuser assembly which came with a new cleaning pad and fuser roll. The thing still prints out bad. I'm leaning more towards the hammer idea now :) Another thing I've noticed is that this marbeling/cracking effect is produced more noticeably...
Greetings, I have a Phaser 740 that has been producing some horrible printouts lately. The imaging unit, charge grid and all toner cartridges have all been replaced. The fuser has not, but is at 78% of its life cycle along with the fuser roll and transfer kit (give or take acouple %'s). I have...
I've had a scanmaker x12 scanner that has worked fine as long as I've had XP installed on my computer. The other day I would get an Filescan.mfc error when trying to acquire an image. After almost an hour of messing around with it I used XP's compatibility feature to run the program in win 95/98...
I encountered a similar error before on a smaller network. (between 2 98se's) All I did was disable and reenable file and print sharing and it seemed to work. I have no Idea what caused it, just one day it stopped working.
An ugly way of doing it(assuming that the old board isn't bad)would be to reinstall the old one, do the gateway installation, swap mobo's and install the drivers.
