Anybody got any clue to why the LED Hard Drive stays on all the time? Have a system that the LED worked normal for a while, now its stays on all the time. Ran the manufacture's hard drive disgnositics software on the hard drive and all is fine---no error codes. And no, the wire harness for the light to the board is not on backwards, if I do reverse the wire, it doesn't work at all. Gotta learn to walk before you can run

Suggest that you research this on the windows95 forum. One thread from about two weeks ago covered it pretty well.

Any advice I give is my best judgement based on my interpretation of the facts you supply. Help increase my knowledge by providing some feedback, good or bad, on any advice I have given.

We have had a batch of cases where all the HDLED lights have stopped on, we know for a fact that it is the actual front panel LED/circuitry that is the problem, the first couple we had were cured by using a differant case.
Of course there is no detrement at all but it's just annoying that it doesn't work properly. Martin Replying helps further our knowledge, without comment leaves us wondering.

If it's a whitebox (custom built PC) the IDE light wire is probaly plugged in backwards. I have a co-worker who does this all the time.

I dont think front panel can be bad. LED will only glow when it gets power. So chek your motherboard. LED cant glow on its on. cause now a days there is not much like panel as far as LED is concerned. U just get a simple LED fixed on cabinet. You have to set right polarity that's it.

Other thought is :

How much is actual disk activity ? r u having low memory in system for said software ? if so the swap file may be using hdd and if processor is slow u feel hdd led is glowing continiously.

Good luck

On my motherboard, where the pins are situated at, there is a chance to make a mistake when connecting the LED's. It can happen that you plug the LED wire the good way (+ on + and - on -) but at the wrong place. That way, if the motherboard sends signal to a specific PIN and you got that PIN plugged in, you should look in your motherboard book to see the plans and then replug your connector at the good place.
