A few things I would normally check :
- is the workstation registered and imported properly into eDirectory? is the workstation object updated & functional?
- on the application object, did you use mapped drive to run setup.exe (i.e. L:\AppName\setup.exe)?

Hi all,
We currently use ZENworks 6.5's DLU & volatile user for all students login. However it would be very useful for visually handicapped students if the system can remember their accessibility settings (i.e large fonts, large icons, and color scheme).
Is there a way of doing this without...
Oops sorry I didn't realize you have mentioned that on the previous post :). Would be interesting to see if you can edit the group policy using older version of C1.
What version of ZEN are you using? Some people reported snapins-related problem managing ZENworks 4.0.1 using ConsoleOne 1.3.6. If you are running 4.0.1, then try using ConsoleOne 1.3.5 (included in the Companion CD).
Do you use Windows XP SP2?
I came across this :
http://netlab1.usu.edu/pipermail/novell/2004-September/046766.html
and remember that I was using XP with SP2 when I had the problem.
Had the same problem, but on my case it was specific to my PC. It didn't happen when I run ConsoleOne from other PCs.
Rebuilt my PC fresh, and the problem disappeared.
Looks like after installing the 4.9 Client & MS Patches, your registry has grown a bit too big for snAppShot. See if snAppShot works on a bare minimum machine (i.e base OS & Novell Client only).

Dear experts,
My apology for the long question... but we're kinda stuck here.
We're having a problem with high utilization on our server that seems to be caused by NCP requests made by Workstation Manager on some machines.
After upgrading to Client 4.90SP1a and rolling out ZEN4 Agent...
The interim patch (ZEN Agent version 4.00.1093.40329) + Client 4.90SP1a seem to fix my explorer.exe/COMCTL32.DLL problem.
That version of the Agent is included in the "Post ZfD4SP1b/4.0.1 Interim Release - TID2969103" at

Novell has put a beta patch (Post ZfD4SP1b/4.0.1 Interim Release) to address this issue :

Will try and see how it goes!
Thanks for your posts, much appreciated! :)

Hi Marv,
The standalone ZfD4 Agent seems to install newer set of files that Client 4.90SP1a does.
I did a Custom install of 4.90SP1a Client, selecting all components, on a workstation that originally had 4.83SP1 Client and files from ZfD3.2SP1. This is what I got ...
Hi Marv,
Thanks for info!
So you're saying that if we still use Novell Client, there's no need of installing the ZfD4 Agent (the MSI file)?
I have always thought that when you have Zenworks 4, ZfD4 Agent still to be installed even if we use the Client and no middle-tier server! Makes me...
Hi Marv,
I was installing it using the msi:
msiexec.exe C:\Zenworks\zfdagent.msi /qb STARTUP_APPWINDOW=0 STARTUP_APPEXPLORER=1
Downloaded the msi from :

Thanks - Andre
Gidday experts,
We have upgraded ZENworks from 3.2SP1 to 4.0.1 on the servers with no problems, but the client part has not been so smooth...
When ZfD4.0.1 Management Agent (version 4.00.1029) is installed, many users are getting EXPLORER.EXE error on COMCTL32.DLL. It could happen randomly...
Where do you run Application Explorer or naldesk from? Running it from local drive would be faster.
Also, check the version of zenworks files (nalntsrv.exe, zenappws.dll, nalexpex.dll, naldesk.exe, nalwin32.exe, etc) by right clicking App Explorer | Properties | More.
Different file...
Just a suggestion - might or might not be applicable on your environment.
Have a look at MS Software Update Services (free product) :

You won't need to detect the language - it will do that for you. But it only works on Win2000 or...
Somewhat embarrasing :)
timesync.nlm was not running on the server that hosts the master replica of the wks container. The server abended and when it was back online, for some reason that nlm failed to load.
Restarted the server, confirmed timesync running by doing some dstrace, then all was...
