I don't know... it would have to get reaaaaaly hot
for a long time to do damage you would think.
Our cooling system died once and before we could get the
backup unit rolled up there it was around 140 degrees in
the room... ambient temp :)!!
Most of the servers were still on and things were so...
Yeah running it to hot will really make the tapes suspect
as it might lengthen the tape media which might of been
the crc errors.
If its a dell server the open manage software will let you
know about all the stats of the system. I believe compaq
has a limited version of that and i'm sure IBM...
You can also edit the selection order to put that resource
at the top of the list.. that way when your in text view
you can delete out the top most items instead of
having to go way down the list each time if it wasn't
first in line to get backed up.
Best way to get a decent backup would be to...
It might be that it wasn't selected then.
Doing the restores can get a bit tricky especially if
you have complicated backups that do anything other than
a complete backup each night.
If you can't find it in the backup and you really need the
file you might want to try and get ahold of a copy...
Problem might be that you setup media sets but since
that media isn't in the set its complaining about it.
I just had an associate do that by accident on a couple
of 11D BE setups... it was set to never overwrite the
media set he made by default when the system was first run
so it wouldn't...
For the latest versions of BE there is a recovery feature.
Which i complained for ever since version 9.1
Your version should have the Automatic cancellation
feature so it will eventually stop the job if it freezes
up instead of sitting for days on same job getting nowhere.
I use the Priority /...
I believe so.
I used to get annoying errors like that all the time
while supporting clients that used 8.6
I used to daily go thru the job log and compare with
the previous to see what data changed.
I found a cheap veritas 9.0 install license on eBay
and was able to upgrade the system i was...
It might be that veritas is getting into the exchange data
when its backing up the system state data or replication
information.
You could try changing the username that backup job
instance is using to see if its getting a
permissions error and giving you a somewhat bogus
error message.
The...
With at least version 9 of Backup Exec you can make an
online folder to backup files to.
Basically what i would do in your situation is have the
portable drive hooked up and set that as the location
to where the data will go.
Then from your Job setup in the media selection area
from the drop...
If they thought it was in the registry i would think it
would be on the BE server side. Its most likely not an
agent restriction but some sort of restriction on the
BE server application side.
I havn't had expierence with a setup that sounds exactly
like yours but i have had to modify the...
Yeah with SQLExpress on there and not telling BE to
join that Instance it was trying to make a new instance
but couldn't since there already was one.
You must also be using an older version..
i think everything from v10 up have been SQLExpress
databases.

If you had replaced the tape drive you can try running
the veritas tape device install wizard again so it'll
refresh the driver configuration.
What might be happening is that drive is just a bit
different so when its replying back commands to BE it might
be sending something that doesn't match...
I know when i did the upgrade i also had to re-download
a veritas tape driver update because it started doing
weird things with my library changers.
Can you try telling it to not eject the tape in the job
and see if it'll complete fully.
It could be that you may need to delete the job, keep...
Depending on the version you have its normally just
on the Restore tab at the top of the application.
It should popup a wizard of some sort and it should show
the available selections you can choose from.
It should show the server / workstations you have backed
up before and have available data...
